Lately, I have been on this site because I think it is one of the most helpful sites for people like us who love to travel. I particularly like the fact that when I am interested in visiting a certain place, I just search the name of the place or city in the search box and an article pops ups about the place and has different topics about the place like what to Understand, How to Get in, How to Get around, Talk, Places of significance to See, Things to Do, things to Learn, how to Work there,what to Buy, what to Eat, Drink, where to Sleep, who to Contact, How to Stay safe, Cope and Get out. How about you my fellow travelers, have you ever visited wikitravel before going to a certain country?

Wikitravel is definitely a very useful site for travellers. It is not exactly a stand alone resource in my opinion, but it has given me ideas of things to do and what to a search engine search for more information.

I agree with what you said. I also look for other sites but usually I go to Wikitravel first and the first thing I read is the Stay Safe section but after I read the whole article, I go to other sites as well because as you have said, Wikitravel should not be the the stand alone source when planning a trip.

I have not used Wikitravel before, but will try it from now on! I usually go to the region/country/city's own website first, but these don't always give you the "straight scoop" about places you want to visit. Thanks for the tip!

You are welcome. I hope the site will help you in your future travels. I also hope you would let me know about your experience after you do visit the site because I am really interested in stories that are similar to mine when using wikitravel.

fyi--there is a very positive article about Wikitravel in TIME Magazine this week. I'm sure that will help spread the word about this beneficial site.

Hi,
I have also been quite regular to this site Wikitravel. I have used it to search for information on some of the countries, states as well as cities and places.
It gives a lot of information on what to expect in a particular city or place and things that you have mentioned. However, I did not check on Wikitravel before my foreign country trips.

You should visit it sometime when you have your foreign country trips because in my first foreign country trip, I did visit Wikitravel first and it was really helpful especially during the planning stages of your trip. However, it isn't exactly the best travel guide but as I have said, it is more in the planning stages that you will see how useful the site is. Thanks for responding.
