I have not yet tried installing Windows XP after Ubuntu. But I'm sure when you installed the Windows XP the Boot setup for the Ubuntu will be lost. There are workarounds on how to restore the boot setup of Ubuntu after installing Windows XP. After you install Windows XP or before installing you must have at least the ideas on how the fix. If you don't want to read more, it is better to reformat the Hard Disk Drive. Then install Windows XP then Ubuntu.

I think it's okay. I have got two operate systems, i.e., Windows 7 and Fedora, on my desktop. They work fluently. My main OS is Win7. After installing a vitual box, I install Fedora there.

As all guys suggested you should be able to load XP. I would prefer formatting the system and having partitions - keeping the two OSs in separate partitions. That is how I used Widows 2000 and Windows XP.
