I hope these contest admires the beauty in women, but at times when it goes to vulgarity it may cause the image of womanhood and their dignity. May be it also depends upon the culture and lifestyle prevailing in each place. Still there are lots of girls who care for their beauty work hard for preserving and making it up. I hope as a profession with positive intention it have lot to give. But at times it becomes a business just going beyond any extend for money and luxurious life.

I don't think these contests are degrading, I mean, beauty is a quality to be admired, whenever you can find it. There are contests out there for men as well, they're just less popular because men are, well, simply uglier than women :) What I find odd about these contests is the assumption that beauty can be quantified, measured and ranked, when this is clearly a matter of individual taste and preference. It's also relatively annoying that they promote stereotypes and standards that are not necessarily my own, but I can live with that, as long as I have an outlet to make fun of such things every now and then.
