If you could live abroad for 1 year, where would you want to live?

If you had the chance to live abroad for 1 year, without having any problems with money or jobs or any of that stuff, where would you choose to live? I would go for Paris or the French Riviera I think. Of course I don't speak any French, but if I didn't have to worry about getting a job etc. I would be fine anyway, wouldn't I?

Hey thanks for the BR, does this mean I get to go??? Yep, that's me, out there in left field, where no one dares to roam..

Haha, I would not have guessed that someone would say that, but I guess I should have guessed that you might! Not a bad choice at all! :)

Ahh nice topic :) I would love to go to Australia to experience its diverse environment and enjoy my time pursuing my favorate hobby photography, alongside my job ;). Other option would be Greece, I just love the historical buildings there, the architecture is fabulous. I would just enjoy dividing my time between job and photography. anybody has any offers for me ;) ?, I am waiting :P

Oh, Greece would be nice too! They have so many cool islands as well! But as with France, in real life the biggest problem about moving there is probably the language, Greek seems very hard to learn. It's a good thing this discussion is totally imaginary I guess :)

If I had the chance to go to live abroad for a year I would choose Australia. I would decide to live in Cairns in Queensland. I would rent a bungalow suitable to my disabled son. I would pop down to Sydney quite regularly because that is my favorite city in the world. Up in Cairns I would be able to enjoy the tropical weather and might be able to go swimming most days. Sometimes at the weekend I would drive up to the northern beaches. Other times I would drive south to Mission Beach and pop across to Dunk Island. If you lived in Paris for one year or the French Riviera I am sure you would pick up some of the French language.

Oh, New York would be awesome too! I would definitely want to try that too, especially if I did not have to worry about expenses, which I would assume is the biggest problem with this city if you move there.

That's a great question. If money is not a problem then I would like to live in Italy. I want to see Rome and walk on the same streets that emperors have walked on. I want to eat Italian food and work in an Italian restaurant where I can learn their secrets from a kind Italian chef. I wouldn't say no to a year of that.

Oh yes, Italy is a wonderful choice as well! I have been several times, and I always had a great time! (except for when I went to Venice)

Scotland. We lived for a year in Singapore, and while it was enjoyable, it was our second choice. We put in for Scotland, but someone else beat us to it. This was in connection with my husband's job at the time.

I would love to live abroad for a year. I've been planning to go to South America for years now. I just need to save up the money and finish paying off my debt. I want to go to rio dejanerio and check out argentina and hike to manchu piccu. I'm also planning on volunteering in the galapacus islands for 6 months. I have to learn spanish first. I'd also like to go to Europe but south america is first.

Thank you! I've been trying to teach myself Spanish through books and cds. It hasn't worked very well. I know a few phrases and words but my prononciation is terrible.

Sounds like a wonderful trip! And don't worry, Spanish is not that hard, you can do it if you just try hard. There are much more difficult languages out there. (I studied Spanish and several other languages myself) Good luck!

I am from northern Europe (Scandinavia) originally, but now I live in Israel, so I am already living abroad. And there are tons of nice places here, so I would not want to live abroad for all of my life, but for a short while, such as a year, would be nice!

I think I would choose a deep and isolated jungle somewhere. The peace and quiet would be welcoming. I really like the idea of being able to live off the land and jungles offer the most to work with and eat.

Wow, that is a pretty unusual choice! For me, I think that would be a bit too tough, but I really admire people who want to try something like that, so good for you!

Godd evening dear Lotter Friend Puccagirl , well i hyave never tought about thhiis untill i got to read your discussion , soo i have already been to Marseille ( France) , London ( U.K. ) , Winchester ( U.K ) , Berling ( Germany ) , Munich ( Germany ) , Amsterdam ( Holland , and i've already been there more then five time , since it is only two and a half hours by train , from Bruxelles to Amsterdam , and from ecaussinnes - This is where i live - to Bruxelles it only takes me fourty minutes with the train , so i guess that Amsterdam wouldbe the city where i'd like to leave abroad , since if i've returned already those manny times , i've already made a few friends , since last year i had a three months period when i practically went every two week'ends and stayed there for around four or five days , depending , and i knowed a bunch of girls and boys that dont live in Holland and they are there for the studdies and theire great persons soo with them i discovered amsterdam in the most cool and relaxing and also funny way. I wish you a great evening dear friend Puccagirl Florin , Over and Out

If money is not an issue, then, I would shuffle from New York to the UK to Japan to Paris and San Francisco. I would spend my year strolling at Central Park, visting Beatle-landmarks, immersing my self in hi-tech gadgetry in Japan, appreciating art in Paris and just chillin' in San Francisco. Ahhhh... the life!
