Optimistic vs. Pessimistic

These are two extremities.. where you can't possibly be both.. at the same time anyway. Most of the time I try to be optimistic about any situation firstly until it's proven to not be what I expected. But then again, I try not to expect anything either therefore I am not let down. Sometimes I am pessimistic going into a situation that I am nervous or uneasy about. Especially if I don't feel nowhere near close to being comfortable. What type of person do you consider yourself? Would you consider yourself to be more optimistic about things or pessimistic?
For the people who aren't quite sure of what these words mean... compliments of dictionary.com.
Optimistic- disposed to take a favorable view of events or conditions and to expect the most favorable outcome.
Pessimistic- the tendency to expect the worst and see the worst in all things.

I agree. In certain instances when things get too overwhelming, one just has to take a step back and take a breather. Things are always better after you calm down and is no longer worked up over whatever is going on!

I honestly think that I am somewhere in the middle here. I am not the person that always thinks that things are going to come out the way that we would like for them to. However, I am not at all the doom and gloom type of girl either. I think that things are going to work out the way that they are supposed to in all situations, it might not always be good but it will turn out the way that it is supposed to.

For many situations it is feasable to feel both. If the situation is very complicated you may feel optimistic about parts of it and still be pessimistic about others.

I guess that could be true. But I still feel to a certain extent that you have to be more than the other.. the odds of being equally both are slim.
