I have recently started making my own bread a lot more. I do find it such a rewarding experience, I love the feel of the dough when I knead it, the smell of it cooking and of course the taste of it as I eat it!! Here is a picture of the loaf I have made today, one with nuts and seeds in it. Do you make your own bread or do you have a favourite food to cook?

Baking my own bread is included in my wish list. When I saw your loaf, I somewhat felt your satisfaction because it looks so tasty and yummy. Now, I felt sorry for my oven because it was not used to its fullest, it deteriorated and cannot be used anymore.

Have you ever considered a breadmaker, they mix and bake the bread themselves so no need for a seperate oven. I used to have one until I moved house and my daughter begged it off me!!

A very nice looking loaf too. We have a breadmaker, but it is little used. My partner has a gluten allergy, and the bread mix is difficult to get right in terms of ingredients. Even when the bread is fairly good, it's still quite brittle and easily falls apart when we attempt to slice it! That said, at £2.40 ish for a loaf of sliced GF bread you have to think twice too! As for favourite cooking, for me that would be Chinese- which again, we mostly have at home. A lot of resataurants use ordinary flour in sauces: so eating out can be quite a challenge.

It must be very hard dealing with a gluten free diet, have you tried the buckwheat semolina - I made some bread with this once and it turned out fine.I am sure that that is gluten free.

I just made a loaf of sourdough bread yesterday, the first I've made in quite awhile. I managed to bake a loaf this summer in the solar oven and it turned out good, but I usually only bake loaf bread when the weather cools down (which I hope happens soon now!)

I make my own bread. We just don't eat much bread. If we are having sandwiches I prefer store bread. Every week I make cinnamon rolls for a Thursday morning fellowship at our church. I make dinner rolls a lot too. We love to let the bread get a little stale and make french toast with it. Nothing like french toast with homemade bread, but once you eat it that way, store bread french toast isn't the same.

Up to now, I haven't make the bread by myslef, what a pity. I just buy it from supermarket every two days. I guess it's interesting to make them. Hope one day I can make it. Well, my favorite food to cook is potato bisque. It's so yummy, and easy to make. Sometimes I make it together with my boyfriend. It's so much fun to cooking something with them. But maybe he doesn't know it.

I agree that making bread is really getting back to old school.Instead of going to the supermarket to get bread making it is a lot more rewarding and I feel that it really is healthier as you are making it and can choose what ingredents to put into the dough. If you want to add stuff like eatra flower or milk then you can and you can add spices and hearbs to you bread to give it a unique flavor.

I remember about 7 years ago I talked my husband into buying me a bread machine. I make bread all the time with it. All kinds of bread, and I tried to be creative in various nuts and fruits I put into it. My family loved all the fresh bread that I made, and I loved the smell. Well I became diabetic, and away went the bread machine. Now that I have my diabetes under control, I might have to take and dust off that bread machine. I never could seem to bet the hang of making bread without the machine (it never seems to rise right for me).

I think the answer is finding just the right place in your home fr the bread to rise. It took me a while to get it to perfection after I moved home - my favourite raising place in my old home was the airing cupboard and I did miss it!!

Hello oldchem1, I love smell of fresh baked bread from the oven. I wish I had the time do it even with bread machine. Yours look like it came out very nice and soft in the center. I do not like seeds in my bread but I do like raisins, crnaberry or cherry and or zuccini bread too. I love warm bread wiht melted butter and touch honey on it. Yummy. Thanks and have a great day Sincerley Unique16

I have never made zuccini (we call these courgettes here in the UK) bread but I have heard of it and keep meaning to try it - might be next on my list - I love bread with olives in too.

Oh yes! It takes all the aggression out of your system. I just imagine all the people that I don't like while kneading the dough. I sometimes get carried away and my wife comes to find out what all the noise is about. Making bread is the best therapy you can get!

When I taught I used to tell my students to imagine that the dough was their worst enemy -= it really got their agression going and some nice well risen bread!!

I love homemade bread. I make it with a bread machine these days, but it's just as delicious. I used to make it the old fashioned way, but my apartment kitchen is so tiny that there's no room for kneading. My hands don't like it, either. It's nice to be able to decide at the last minute to make bread, and have it ready to eat in two or three hours, depending on the recipe and whether I use the rapid method (extra yeast). Just dump everything into the container, set the size and kind of bread I want, and hit the start button.
