What age did your child go to a sippy cup?

My baby has never had a bottle but I am going to go ahead and start her on a sippy cup. Seems like it would be easier than transitioning her from the bottle to sippy cup after being transitioned already. Seems like if she will take the sippy cup it is one less battle to fight. What about you?

It all depends on the cup the bub and the flow. if it is a slow flow can cope from when sitting unaided and can do cup to mouth. Some find using a slow flow squirty type juice bottle a little quicker

Well, why not just skip that transition also and go straight to the regular cup! And I'm not joking either or trying to be a smartbutt. I'm serious! Now, I am having a little situation myself with sippy cups...I just posted something about it, so I'm gonna say upfront that I should of taken my own advice, lol... Anyways, with my 4th son (and I don't know why) we would just let him drink our water and everyonce in a while we would give him some formula right out of a regular cup from about 4 months. He was suprisingly good at it so we just kept doing it. They do spill quite a bit at first, but like everything else they get tired of getting wet and will start to hold still when they see the cup coming up to their face. By the time we took the bottle away completely,(at about 9 months) he was a pro at it! And never fussed about that bottle (of course, we never let him go to bed with a bottle either) so it was a peice of cake with that one! The 2 year old I have now (my only girl)...that's a different story:-( Good Luck and Happy Holidays!

My son never would take a regular sippy cup. He's always had a fascination with straws. So we bought him some of the cups with the straws that are attached in the lid with a spill proof valve and everything. We started him on those when he was about 5 months old I think. He loves them. He uses them a lot. Otherwise, he just drinks out of a regular straw as long as the cup has a lid, since he does have a tendency to throw them down. He just turned 1 today after all.

my daughter was just a couple of months after she turned 1 when i switched her over to a sippy cup. she had a hard time sucking hard enough through the regular cups and didn't understand to tip it up. what i did was bought the cups with the straw and those worked great.

Surely, the sooner your baby takes to sippy cup the better. Fondle your baby with affection & make the baby first play with sippy cup. That way the baby will be comfortable with it & then it will be time for the baby to drink milk through sippy cup. Don't just go for sippy cup milking for your baby just like this because sippy cup is something alien for your baby.
