Idealistically at what age would you tell your Daughter or Son the truth about Santa Claus and why?

For as long as possible. I do not want to spoil their fantasy. I would want them to enjoy the fairytale as long as they could. For myself, I learn about it when I was 12 years old. And I remember the feeling as if a dream had been shattered.

Thanks sjlskl, I remember when I found out about it I felt very bad that my Parents had lied to me about something so big and made me wonder what else they might be lieing about. I was always a very suspicious child though.

I think it would be good to let them discover it for themselves so as not to spoil the fun while they're still believing in Santa Claus.

Here is what always worked for me, as we made a great deal about Santa Claus in my home, as when my children out right and asked I would always respond that when they felt in their hearts that Santa does not exist then it was over. What I meant with this is that we put out the cookies and had the great anticipation for the big day. So when they thought that this fun time was over well then the fun was over as then they believed that I went to a store and bought the gift myself that meant all fun was over. I am sure my children were old enough at some point to know that it was me and not Santa who brought the gifts but when I tell you the anticipation for the great day that is what mattered in my home.
