What do you think of Barak Obama?

Living in Ireland I probably don't have the full facts about Barak Obama and am not as exposed to the news reports on him as say the American public would be but from here he does seem to be a very good politician, one that is at least trying to make a difference. So without knowing much about him I thought I would ask you the American public how you actually perceive the current President? He would in my opinion seem to be a welcome relieve from your last President George Bush but again living in Ireland I only got the extreme highlights of George's career and probably didn't get to see a lot of the good he did. From what I did see in the news here though he did seem to make a lot of very big mistakes. I'm sure some of you will disagree with that and I really would be interested in hearing from you. Recently I was also shocked to hear a comment from two Iraqi's I was in College with here in Ireland. One of them was Sunni and the other was Shiite, surprisingly to me they were both good friends. I asked them how did they feel about the war in Iraq and were they happy about Saddam being executed. Again to my surprise they say yes but believed George Bush should have had the same thing happen to him on the same day. So how do you as American feel about Obama, Bush and the reaction of the Iraqi's to the war? Thank you and nothing I said here is an attempt to offend any nation or its people, it's just plain old curiosity.

as an American i really like Obama as a president. hes trying to lower the national debt instead of adding to it like bush did,and hes endorsing green and renewable energy which will pay for it self over time unlike bush who was an oil person way before he came into office. he even helped pass healthcare reform which should lower the national deficit in the coming years. Obamas got alot to deal with though. he inherited the problems of the Bush administration which hes being blamed for such as the high unemployment. the economic problems hes taking the blame for isn't going to go away any time soon. it will take years to recover from. alot of the economic problems that are going on currently actually started under the Clinton administration when congress did away with the Glass-Steagall Act which was made into law during the Great Depression. the Glass-Steagall Act was enacted to protect against additional risks associated with security transactions by prohibiting commercial banks from collaborating with full-service brokerage firms or participating in investment banking activities. as far as i know congress still hasn't reinstated the Glass-Steagall Act or something just like it but it could of helped prevent all the economic mess that the country has went through over the past 3 years. bush didn't help the economic stability either when he came into office. Bush made the economic situation worse by decreasing taxes for everyone including the most wealthy of Americans during a time when 2 wars were going on. you can't expect not to add alot on to the national deficit when you decrease taxes for everyone during a time of war(especially 2 wars). more debt added to the deficit would of occurred anyway but bush didn't have to lower taxes for everybody. also what the 2 Iraq's said about Bush doesn't surprise considering all the suffering Iraq went through during the Iraq war.

from what i've read on it the bank citigroup broke the law by violating the Glass-Steagall Act. most would think citigroup should of be punished for that but instead of punishing citigroup they did away with the Glass-Steagall Act. i guess certain laws don't apply to them by the way it looks. also eliminating the Glass-Steagall Act meant their was less regulation which gave the banks more flexibility to make more money. also i would say the idea of Haliburton and the Bush family owning all the oil fields in Iraq is most definitely a lie. there's lots of oil companies working in Iraq from what i've heard.

Very interesting elmiko. I never heard of the Glass-Steagall Act so I'll have to look that up. Any idea why Clinton did away with it? Do you think Bush had somebody else pulling his strings? Thats the sort of impression I got though I could be completely wrong? Is it true that Cheneys Haliburton group and Bush's family now owns all the oil fields in Iraq or was that just a rumor?

after 9-11, iraq and much more, i don't think anyone could be a likeable president after cleaning up this. I don't think that mccain would have been America's most beloved president by the republican party either. As far as Obama goes, he has not wasted that much money, war costs more than a medical plan for low income families which is basically sobra or medicaid.

Thanks Sama and of course your right, nobody could have taken over that Presidency and be liked by everyone, just wouldn't have been possible.

One thing for sure about Mr. President Obama is that he seems to be the one who is against the war. Again, U.S has the habit of surprising anyone in the entire world. So, It will actually be American people who would be able to judge him. I like his way of working though!!!

Yes, he does seem to be trying to make a difference for the better. Your right the American people do have the right to Judge him but since they are currently the biggest power in the world and really effect things on a global scale I think ever other Country they effect should have the right also. Not to vote in their political system or anything like that but at least have an opinion.

There is a lot of bad things being aid about Barrack Obama. Some people say that hes muslim and that the world will end because of him. I think only racist people say this. But in my opinion as a Canadian, I think hes an honest man trying to change the world for the better. I hope he does but I know hes working his best.

Yes I've heard some of those remarks that he went to an extremist Muslim school and so on but I'd find that hard to believe.

I support him completely ! Yes, he is trying to make a difference but he has a very tough job. He was left with way too many problems and cant possible solve them all but some ppl expect that he should. I think, in my opinion anyway, he is the best president of my lifetime and I hope and pray that he gets re elected again in 2012, and I pray even harder that the republicans DO NOT get back in. God, that would be awful, terrible! Just imagine waking up the day after the election and seeing John Beahaer is the houses peaker??? OMG!!! That cant happen!!!! People get out there and vote, and of course vote democratic.
