does posting a photo count? are there any guides/rules in posting photos that will make you earn when posting one?

Yes, it counts. Until you reach 500 post to be able to upload phots into discussions, you can upload a photo into a new discussion you start, or you can upload photos into your interest. Yet, there is a limit to how many pictures you can upload, the link that have been given to you above says so.
