How Can We Learn to See the Positive in Life?

No doubt, we have all had problems and traumatic experiences in life, but we cannot do anything about it when it has already happened. The only time we can live is today, and we can try to make the best of it. A long time ago, there was a man who wanted to end his life. But before he did it, he caught site of a boy who was sitting in a wheelchair. He had no arms and no legs. But he was so full of life and happiness. His name was Mikael. The man who saw him, changed his mind and is probably still alive. Later he met Mikael, who had grown up, and told him that seeing him and his positive attitude, had saved his life. Nowadays Mikael is giving lessons in the power of thought, to choose life. He is on a picture in a Swedish newspaper, having fun together with two of his children. http://www.expressen.se/nyheter/1.84568/mannen-utan-granser He says that if he feels depressed, he does some exercise, and it helps. for me there's a lot of way to overcome depression ..but for all the good way to over come it the best way for me is TO TRUST IN GOD ( you'd live in love ) if you just know who you trust then you won't get depress. Life spins in a twists and turn..but if you just have that word "TRUST" inside you then never you'd be depress..

Hi, rdramirezC Nice to see you here. Yes, God is always there for us, and there are many examples of men and women who trusted in God. Even when they became depressed, they could search for help through prayer and they got strength to live further and in time, their life got better. Proverbs 3:5(New Living Translation): [b]"Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding."[/b] We need to learn more and more about the purpose of our heavenly Father to be able to trust him even more. Well, I am in the middle of living out a real life trauma. I am taking care of my son who was injured in an accident. I actually started a blog in which I sort through what I see each day and find hope to carry on another day. I have to see the positive or seek for it until I find it to get through each day or it will get me down. Some days it's easy to find (like when he's doing good) and other days it is more difficult to find (like when he's having a rough day!)... but hope is there if we can look for it.

I do hope your son comes over this situation. It is not easy to think positive thoughts when one is in pain of some kind. He might find help to endure if he believes in God and prays for strength. In time he might get better and think back - that it is possible to survive big problems. I sent a prayer for you. Wish you well..

Thank you for posting this story! It is so good! I think we all need this. I try to think positive all the time, myself. It's hard sometimes, though, because like so many people these days, I'm having a lot of money problems. Also, I have been sick with UTIs a lot these days and I've had a time getting adjusted to my antibiotics. I took my last dose yesterday and I seem to be doing better now. I just hope I have this problem nipped in the bud for once.

When you just concern about what you live,you're probably easily to make decisions to change your bad respects,and it's also easy to give up.What you have to do is just to think about your family,your friends,the people who you love. Every time when i feel bad and wanna give up my dream,i'll always recall how my parents live,are they healthy enough.I saw their hair had turned white.They are old.It's my turn to take over this family,and of course the responsibilities.So i have to think positively,otherwise life could not go on.

well we all had problem's yeah it's true, no one in this world doesn't have problems, everybody has his own problems, things are going wrong because of problems, i myself have a lot of problems that i encounter, the difficulties and weaknesses i have but we know only god can solve our problems in his presence and the way you ask him heartily he grant you the way you are....

Hi, NTRamirezC, Good to see you here! Yes, God can help us solve our problems and sometimes in a way we never thought it could be solved. He can give us strength in trying times. And he gives us a great hope for the future. I have found Psalm 37 very comforting. Psalm 37:10,11: [b]"For yet a little while and the wicked shall be no more; Indeed, you will look carefully for his place, But it shall be no more. But the meek shall inherit the earth, And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace."[/b]

Its really encouraging to see him and his courage to live life with determination. Well, we see people worrying for little causes, why? even me think its just not enough. health probs, emotional, mental, everything can cause a turmoil , but a positive attitude and faith can encourage a happy life. Hi, my friend You are right, we sometimes forget to be thankful for what we have and need to re-focus on the positive. Persons like Mikael make us think of what we too often take of granted. But at least we know that the best is ahead of us and it helps to think of the bright future the Holy Scriptures talk about.. Thanks for your comment..

You are so right that this is a learning process. I have never felt depressed but I have read many articles that talk about the benefits of exercise against depression. I have overcome many other challenges with the power of thought, however, I think we can do just about anything that we think we can do.

Hi, Dr Ann I agree that our thoughts have a lot of power, and I think we will learn more about this way of enhancing our life in the future. And exercise is absolutely necessary as our body was made to move..

hi buenavida yes I have and am doing it for the p ast year and a half. from b eing an ordinary mother and adult son living in an apartment and pretty much lower middle class people. I was happily retired but my son was having problems in his work place. he was working for a small company that had overshot their budget and lowered his wages. anyway he was laid off and we got behing on the rent so e viction came and with that thw worst of the worst. homeless, even the sound of the word ties my tummy in knots. So after not finding work right away as the e conomy had suddenly fallen we were literally walking all day so we could check into a homeless shelter. then he met Andrew a social worker for adult protection services and Andrew persuaded my son and I that for now the best thing was f or me 83 then to use my social security and ssi checks to stay here in this goshawful retirement center. so the only positive thing was a place to stay, a bed to sleep on a r oom and three meals a day, and forget you once was on your own and was not waited on hand and foot like this.Yes I would much rather be back in an apartment with my son,him working here and me mylottin as usual. but he did not get a job until just three weeks ago so now we may be able to move into an apartment again when he has accumulated enough money.the power of knowing that crying and being sad and depressed would make me ill and not solve a damned thing I decided to be happy for now where I am and look forward to much better things.I see before me here many who are so much worse off than myself, in wheelchairs and smiling and being pleasant with every one around him. so if all of these brave people can be happy in spite of being handicapped so can I with my bad leg. I can still walk by myself, no wheelchair so I have a lot to be thankful for and I am I truly am.

Dear Hatley, thank you for telling your story. It is so great that you have found the positive in the challenge it must have been to get accustomed to a new place with new people. Yes, we can always learn from others who have more problems than we have and still are positive. I think we only learn to see the positive when we have Him in our lives. Many times I have failed to live my life without Him or turning my back on Him. I have to say I learn things the hard way but now I know already. It may sound that I may be a goody two shoes but its the truth. For the how many years of my existence, I find myself in the midst of putting an end to my foolish ways. But definitely spending more time with my relationship with Him, understanding what life has for us, going out and living life how God wants us to will definitely keep you positive with your outlook in life. Everybody should always see things in a positive no matter what the circumstances may be. Everything starts with your outlook in life and thus you should change it with God in it.

Yes, if we try to do the will of God, we will be much happier as God always knows what is best for us. And we can ask him to lead us and to teach us his will. Hi BV! That's a nice experience. To stay or see the positives we need an accurate understanding of what is happening to us or around us. I sometimes debate both sides of the issue to myself. Then find the positive side of anything and self-talk myself into seeing things in a positive light. When negative thoughts come I sometimes tell myself to stop thinking like that. Take care!

Yeah, my friend, That is a good method we all could use when we meet challenges in our life. Having experience from the problems we have met, helps us to understand others who also have problems and sometimes we can help just by listening and understanding. I know you are doing a lot to help others and that is a great way to turn things to the positive side!!

I was feeling really depressed today, so what to do? I went for a short walk, in spite of the cold weather and darkness, bought fruits in the store, came home and ate some fruit, slept for a while and then went to see my old discussions.. After reading the many responses, including yours, I feel a lot better. It is a good feeling to have friends here, who share one´s thoughts and interests. I think I have to start using your self-talk method from now on. Thanks for the tips!

Glad to be of some help. Some people find that when there is little sunshine they get a bit depressed. Good that you did some positive things. Hopefully it is just a brief depression that will quickly pass.

The only way that can reveal what is positive is by correcting your mistakes. It is good to make mistakes but it is also important to find out the solutions so that we will not going to repeat it again...It is the best way to find out what is correct and what is wrong.

Hi, ashutoshs8 Yes, we can always learn from our mistakes. If we have been negative in the past, we can change that by choosing to see the positive side of things. We could say that the one who learns from his mistakes, is wise. But the one who learns from other people´s mistakes is even wiser. But sometimes we have to make the mistakes ourselves to be able to learn from them.. Thanks for your comment..

i handle my difficult moments through music, writing anything, through blog and singing and gym too. i had to set back and relax and most important is a lot of prayers.

I have overcome a life-changing, very sad situation with the power of thought. Just as my life was changing, just after the event and I was mentally and emotionally numb, my employer thought it a good idea to make us attend a lecture by a speaker who specialized in positive thinking and changing our lives by changing our attitudes--choosing our attitudes rather than letting our attitude control us. It changed my life and helped me through the worst time of my life. Ever since, that wisdom and advice has helped me see the good in things and to look for the positive in the negative. There is nothing that can defeat me unless I allow it, no one can make me feel badly unless I consent to it. In fact, my life changed within a week of hearing that man talk and I was able to thank him for his guidance.

That lecture must have been efficient!! We all would need such lectures now and then. It is right, in most cases our attitude is the key to cope with problems and we just have to train to see the positive things that are around us even in hard times. There must be a lot of this kind of information online - and the best thing for me has been to have the hope we find in the Bible about an ultimate solution it talks about - when our Creator restores the earth to be like He planned it from the beginning!! I think we can learn to take things positively in our life. But for this we could change our way of thinking. I think if we always thinks positively then it is good for us. Yes, our thoughts affect us - maybe more than we think.. And positive thoughts make us do positive things. As I like to read the ancient wisdom written to help us cope in this world, I came to think of the following scripture: "...whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things." My philosophy on this is simple: count your blessings. It may be as ordinary as being able to wake up in the morning, but be thankful coz it's a new chance at life. Your story is absolutely true. Other people have bigger problems and are in more difficult situations. If we always see the goodness in what we have, life is always beautiful!
