I homeschool my 6-year-old and I cannot get him to sit still or pay attention and then I get frustrated really bad. I know he's only 6 but what can I do to get him to just sit still and learn. Does anybody else have issues like this with schooling or homework? Any suggestions to make a 6-year-old sit still?

Hi, I know it is not easy to handle kid nowadays, soemtimes I also having difficulty to handle my 3.5 year old boy at home. Since your son is already 6 year old, you may consider to send him for kindergarten and let him socialize with friends. Of course, you still can homeschool him and in order to get his attention in thing that you teach him, do give him some tasks and guide him on how to do it and give him a reward when he is doing it right, always praise him "well done" or "good boy" when he is doing well. Kid need to be praised and sometimes giving small reward is workable to get the kid sit down quietly and concentrate on the thing that he need to be done.

He definitely could use some socialization I'm sure. I'm such a recluse that he unfortunately suffers a little bit in that area.

Make sure that what you are teaching is fun. Find the time of day that your child is the calmest and do the worksheet type stuff at that time, in the meantime, find fun ways to do the math, use manipulative. For spelling, try spelling words in pudding at lunch time. Make sure he is active. Count by 2's while jumping on one foot, how high can he get? Physical activity helps a child focus. Also, green spaces, a trip to the park can be a science lesson? talk about the leaves changing colors due to the weather changing.

Try to use something like a fun singing video, or ABC singing video, for example. My uncle's son is only 2 years old when they started teaching him English. They used all this video thing, with many cute adorable cartoon character, singing, reading, pronunciation, animal, things, and many more. It worked well and he was performing very well too. But this is just an example, others around MyLot may have even better suggestions, but I wish you good luck :)

Reward him! Get him to perform task, and quiz him on it. If he passes, reward him. You're his mom you know what he likes.

This seems to work for learning but not to quit fidgeting. Any suggestions to quit the fidgeting?
