Why do people still depend on god to take care of everyting

One thing i HATE more than anything is when someone says "god will take care of it" when something goes wrong. This is a cop out in my opinion, we should be taking care of our own problems and dealing with them head on instead of getting down on our knees and wasting time praying. What does praying do?? Would it not be better if everyone on the planet came together collectively and dealt with the problems on the world head on instead of waiting for "god" to take care of it.....the world is in a very bad state right now and think it is mostly becuase of the many people who sit back and wait for god to look after the problems. I have met religious people and the majority of them do not recycle, drive gas guzzling, pollution-causing vehicles, wear fur coats, gossip behind each other's backs and never contribute to anything in society except going to church on Sundays. Most people I know who dont go to church are out picking up garbage, rallying for human rights, helping the poor and doing REAL things to fix the problems in this world while the churchgoers sit back and say "i dont need to do any of that becuase God will take care of it".....why is this?? I am not trying to offend anyone, I am jsut trying to understand this primitive frame of mind that seems to be brainwashing most people into not taking action against anything that affects them and their surroundings.....

You're not offending anyone. You're right. It's lame and not right to ask god to do anything. Not even mentioning the word 'fairy tale'. Left-wing Christians are worst but they are not the only religion that's like that. Left Wing Christians believe Muslims are enriching our culture. The same Muslims who terrorize our beloved country. Raping, disrespectful behavior, raids, assaults, Sharia-minded people, Takkiyah-minded people ( I don't care if Takkiyah is spelled wrong), people living from social security because they either don't want to work, wear clothings that are unsuitable for work and are not willing to dress appropriately and/or don't speak the language. I had visited my Turkish former-boss when she was ill and the doorbell rang. It was a woman with a headscarf and traditional clothings I tried talking to her but despite her being in the country for over 10 years all she could say is basic stuff like: Hello, yes, no, thanks. ?????!!!!! They're money guzzling freaks wanting to take over our Jewish-Christian society, most of them that is. ( and yes anyone who feels offended prosecute me... do it... ) And left-wing christians allowing this aren't much better.

I don't think God helps those people as much as they think He does! "God helps those that help themselves". God gave each of us a good brain and He expects us to use it! My attitude is that I do everything I can possibly do to help myself and when I've exhausted all my resources and can't think of anything else, I turn it over to God. Then He helps, I'm firmly convinced of that. In the past when I was very young I would give up too easily and expect God to solve my dilemma and He didn't. I learned some very tough lessons that way and my faith wavered. Once I matured and was able to look back on my actions and attitudes, I saw my mistakes and was glad I had that waning faith to make me work harder and help myself. So, God helps those who help themselves and when all else fails they turn to Him. Those who sit around and ask for help are not going to get it--from anyone!

God will take care of it with faith, and determination from the person. you have to be willing to help yourself as well you cant be lazy about life and expect things to just happen or fall in your lap because it just dosent work that way, god can guide you and help lead you but you have to do your share of the work too. As they say god helps those who helps themselves if a person just sits through life praying for a free ride its not gonna happen but if that persons determined and motivated and also has faith then yeah god will help you along.

Oh and I just wanted to add that not all people of faith think or believe and practice in the same way, I'm a person of faith but I also believe in hard work and I dont believe in laziness or selfishness and I'm not one to depend on prayer alone because I believe our creator appreciates hard workers too.

There are a lot of things I think God doesn't do. He doesn't make my coffee for me in the mornings...he hasn't cooked my breakfast... but I do rely on HIm for direction. I read the Bible (specifically Proverbs) to gain wisdom to know how to deal with things. I also think He helps me, but doesn't do it for me!

In communist country like China, there isn't any God in the world. For me, there is a supernatural power in the world. Unless you can show me the edge of the space, then I shall believe no god or ghost in the world. ha! ha! ha! Religion is teaching us the right thing and leading us to the right direction. I never believe God is helping us to do everything. We must try our afford in resolving problem. If you pray and hoping the God to resolve everything for you, the first thing I advise you not to stay in this world. Let the God replaces you and stay here.

I don't know but what gets me is people who call themselves christian scientists. I understand the concept but it seems like an overall stupid decision to deny yourself or a child medical help or treatment simply to sit and wait for god to heal you. In fact, in some cases, the court has ruled in favor doctors that the issue borders child abuse.

That's what I wonder? My grandmother is highly religious and truly believes in God, but she does not believe that God can take care of everything. She says that doctors and medical care were created for a reason. If you are sick, go see a doctor, if you want money, get a job, if you need something done, do it yourself. Don't expect God or anyone else to do anything for you.

Yes, this is very annoying to me as well. People rely on God to take care of every little detail in their lives. It has been said that God helps those who help themselves. I really think people forget that a lot of the time. Also annoying to me, is when people blame the devil on everyday occurrences and misfortunes. People need to own up to their mistakes and realize that if they want change to happen in their lives that they must take the reins and steer the course that they wish to go.

I am Catholic and im not sure which religion you are talking about. Because we believe that helping the poor is a very important ministry. I have not heard anyone from my church say that god will take care of something. We have free will and need to take care of our own problems.
