OB or GYN?

So I had to switch health insurance carrier and I'm loosing my GYN - after 15 or so years! Years ago, I opted for a gyn only because I hated feeling like I wasn't important! OB, understandably have to deal with deliveries and pregnancy issues, but it made me feel like, "Wait, I'm not pregnant, but my female health problems are important too!" So I found a doc that did not practice OB, and I was happy! Of course, when I got pregnant, I had to find an OB, but I went right back to my GYN afterward... Now, I have to leave her because she doesn't take my new insurance. But guess what? I found out my old OB stopped practicing and only does GYN now! I'm so excited! How many of you prefer GYN only vs. OB??? And could I possibly need to find a HOBBY or something so that my 'HAPPY DAY' feelings don't revolve around such mundane accomplishments??? LOL

I've only had a combination doctor in my life (actually two of them). The first time that I ever visited a female doctor was when I was already pregnant with my daughter. However, I loved the doctor that I had at that time. Then, shortly after Kathryn was born, I changed to one of the partners in the practice. In fact, it was the doctor that had delivered my sister when she was born 20 years prior. That said, I was never made to feel like I wasn't important when I went in for appointments when I wasn't pregnant.

Argh! Around here, doctor appointments are a pain in the rear! Unless you have a doc that is in private practice, and not part of a huge HMO group, you wait up to an hour to be seen, then up to a half hour once you get in the room, and then they rush you out in 10 minutes! One time, I waited an hour to see the OB/GYN, then after being in the exam room for 40 minutes, I finally got the nurse and she did the prelim exam, then I was laying down, feet up in the air, on the table for almost 30 minutes! I never saw the doc because I got up, got dressed and left. She literally left me on the table! That was the straw that broke my back! I found my GYN and refuse to ever be left like that again!

I would be happy too. I have been looking for a doctor that I like for years. I usually just see a family practicioner to save time. I really didn't like the guy that delivered my daughter so I never went back to him. Also my insurance considers it a specialist so I go to the family doc to save money too. If you found something that made you happy then I say YAH for you and enjoy it. Being a mother of a three year old I get happy if she doesn't pick her noise in front of people. And if she sleeps in past 6:30 am. So be happy as long as you are happy that is all that matters. My daughter made my day the other day because she painted a picture and gave it to me instead of daddy LOL

I'm eating a turkey sandwich right now and happened to have taken a sip of milk just when I got to "if she doesn't pick her nose in front of people" and I SPIT MILK OUT ALL OVER MY DESK! LOL That was funny! Yeah, it's funny how the things that make us happy (with children) are so totally different (than without children). Thanks for the response.... and the laugh!
