Hi everyone,
So I am studying for my exams coming soon. But alot of people struggle to study properly. I am going my studying tips:
-Don't do things in the last minute. I remember doing that alot when i was in college but now, it doesn't work that way once you enter university. Got to be well prepared.
-If you have alot of memorizing to do, how about asociating each element with numbers? On of my friends would even play with the words and make a sentence out of it. Make a song if you can.
-If you don't understand, don't be afraid to ask the teacher. I noticed that alot of students are afraid to raise the hand and to admit that he/she can't understand. It would only hurt you in the long run. As you are trying to figure it out on your own or your classmate, the teacher will be talking about the next material.
-The last week or few days before your exam is suppose to be revision of what your learned not the beginning of studying.
-Push yourself the repeat button. I am doing a math degree and i noticed that doing math problems once isn't enough. Do it once to get the idea, second to understand better, third time excel and understand perfectly + making sure you didn't miss anything. It's a way for me to learn the mechanism and find the patterns. The same goes to reading.
-If your class requires reading, try to be ahead by reading before coming to class.
What are your study tips?

Hi ladysakurax!
Sleep early and wake up early! It worked for me before. I usually get up as early as I can to study and prepare for my reports. Getting as much sleep is very important to keep our brains working. I do not skip meals ( especially breakfast) so I get nourished the whole day.
Organize your study schedules. Prioritize. Do extra research. It is always important to understand what you read. I f it requires memorization, you are right! Memorization by association is one of the best thing to do.
Best of all, enjoy every minute of your school days.
Good luck!

I forgot to add the tip of sleeping early. That is really important. Staying late at night is nnot going to help us in anyway since our head doesn't think straight anymore. We also listen to what our body tells us. Thank you for sharing! I am sure this will be helpful to many people who read it.

Give yourself a break. After 1 hour studying, get yourself like 10 minutes break to walk around, grab some food, etc. Don't stay in front of computer and chat, or watching TV and call friends, it will take you more than that and will destroy your mood to study.

Coffee, apples, oranges, things that boost your immune system, taking breaks every now and then, don't try to cram everything in at once, just study what you can, a lot of time management.

I agree about just study what we can. Trying to go to fast to study alot but not understanding a single thing isn't going anywhere. I am for apples and oranges :)I see alot of students eating fruits in class. I am too lazy to grab one but it does come in handy when you need a snack. i will try to change this habit. thank you for sharing!

Here are my studying tips:
Make sure you give yourself enough time to study or you'll just get stressed out if you study almost at the very end.
Also, eat healthy and take short breaks in between study times to give your brain a break and maintain a good brain. Eating junk food will just make you sleepy, and not taking breaks will just make you tired and possibly cranky.
Get enough sleep so that the next day when you take the exam you will feel energized and ready to ace it.
It can be boring when you study alone, so if you do get bored then you should try studying with a partner in your class.
See a teacher, tutor, or classmate for help if you do not understand the material. It will take a lot of your time to try to figure out the material if you do not understand it. Understanding it will make it a lot easier when studying it.
They say practice makes perfect. Practice or study the material over and over again until you get it.
Okay, there you have it.

it's a good thing that you mentionned studying in group. I must say that you must have discipline in order to study in group. I did that a couple of times. When i did this with one of my classmates, it was wonderful. She was explaining alot of things to me while she reviews at the same time. Both oarties get benefit. However, it did happen when we just end up talking about other stuff than school haha so yeah got to be careful about that especially when exams are coming soon. Thank you for sharing :)

Give yourself a break. The human brain can only take up to 4 hours of "studying" then the brain cells start to lose its focus or something. What I'm trying to say is, don't be afraid to take breaks when studying, for me it was 10minutes every hour or so. It helps you concentrate so your brain can absorb more information.
Also, eat right when you're studying. Nothing too heavy that all the blood circulation will be concentrated on the digestion of the food, and nothing too light that you'll be hungry. Protein bars really helped me before.
I hope this helps. Good luck!

It's true! Studying too much without breaks can give us a burn out. Eating a big lunch would make me sleepy. I wouldn't be able to concentrate on my school work. thank you for reminding me and the peopel who will read this.

I am a Math Major. I do not study much before. What I do is listen very well to the teacher when she discuss lessons. because stored knowledge is very usable during the test. If I can not understand it. I ask my classmates to explain it to me. I will also recommend group studying. Especially if you are dealing with math. you can share ideas on ho to solve problems. But the most essential part of Math is learning the basic of it. then practice a lot...

That's nice to hear that you are majoring in math. I am studying in actuary. The math part is not that bad. The hardest part is when it comes to insurance laws and retiremet programs. The materials is somewhat not my favourite one and all i could think of is the teacher who looks like a cowboy or think about food lol. But yeah, I also write down difficult words and look for it and ask it to the teacher if I am still clueless. I am going to try out some of your suggestions. thank you for sharing.

Oh I forget. I often go to library before and see different books with different problems and try to solve it on my own. That helps a lot during exams. But I make it a point to study the hardest lessons first 2-3 days before the announced examination.

For Reading, you got to have passion for it. If you don't then try to incorporate techniques like writing difficult words or idea on your writing pad. look for meaning and try to make sentence out of that.

Yes understanding the base is the first thing to do. it doesn't take us anywhere to memorize the material without understanding the meaning of it. However, some class do require memorizing such as geography when tey ask you to enumerate the governements of the past few decades, etc.

Hi Ladysakurax! Those are nice studying tips you got there. When I was still studying I need to read the notes 2x to pass and 3x to 4x to have high marks. Lol. That means repetition is the best. I also like reading infront on a tv that way I don't fall asleep. I also munch some snacks like peanuts while reading. I sleep early and scan my notes in the morning before I go to school. Good luck on your exam!

So you must be done woth school now. Congratulations! I still have a long way to go. Repetition is indeed the best for me as well. It's impossible for me to do math problems just once and go straight for the exam. I guess that we excel with practice just like experience for work. I am reading my classnotes right now and i am also going to eat up some snacks right now! I feel like i am falling asleep. Reviewing classnotes would also be nice. I'll try to do that on my way to school when i am sitting in the bus. thank you for sharing this tip!

Yes snacks provide a boost of energy when feeling sleepy. I tried to overwork myself before but it doesn't do any good nor dos it make me understand the material better. Better sleep enough and do the work properly. thank you for sharing.

I have found an "Error Book" to be very effective for me, especially for mathematics. I have one for all my subjects. I regularly do practice exams and any errors I make, I write down in my error book. I often refer to my error book to make sure I do not make the same mistakes twice.

That is sooooo important. I do that all the time. When i write down all the important equations i need to know by heart, i write a note beside it of mistakes i should avoid. I like the 'error book'. It's unfortunate that there isn't an edit button to add this one into my post. thank you for sharing
