It's Okay in TV land but not okay in Real Life

Me and my friend were watching a show together and on the show a husband cheats on his wife and his mistress attempts to kill his wife (think Fatal Attraction). Anyway, when they finally caught the deranged mistress, the husband pleads with the police not to arrest her but to send her off for psychiatric help. Once he makes sure his mistress is properly taken care of, he goes to the hospital to check on his wife and pleads for her to take him back. She says that she still loves him but she doesn't know if love is enough for her to forgive him. Now my friend says that the wife is stupid and should just forgive her husband because he's truly sorry. I told my friend that I agree with the wife that it would be hard to forgive someone so easily after they broke your heart and trust and vows like that. Then I asked my friend, if her husband cheated on her, would she forgive him and she said if her husband looked like him- yes. Then she laughed it off. I know she was joking, but I was wondering why is it okay for husbands in movies and shows to cheat? Why do we- as the viewing audience- hope that the wife will simply throw open her arms and forgive her husband when we know perfectly well that if it is our friend/family member that was the injured party we would tell them to leave the cheater or at least separate from them for awhile?

Because that's the main purpose of TV shows, movies, commercials, and sometimes even the news. If it's good enough programming to get your attention, they'll try to explode it to the very limit that you'll allow them to so you'll have them way deep in your mind. For example, anything that flairs up emotions, feelings, comments, like this show did for you, will make some people get angry, sentimental, thinkful, etc. depending on how they would relate any specific situation to their own life. But a the end, we should try to know ourselves good enough to identify if whatever actions we take, whatever we do in life, is based on our own thoughts, common sense, set of values, and not being influenced by something coming out of the tv screen. Cheers !!
