I started traveling and working this summer. I moved up to the lodge I work at now a couple months ago. We are in the middle of the rocky mountains with no town for an hr each way. It was fun but I applied for a new job. I got the new job. This one is in Banff, Alberta, Canada. Its a resort ski town in the rocky mountains. Its a really good job. I might be up there a while. When your traveling and working how do you decided how long to stay in one place? Do you get a job before you move or move and then find a job?

I stay in one place until there is a problem, except for going on trips. Once I quit a job because I wanted to take a 7-day vacation and they would only allow 6 days. A friend who worked there too had gotten her vacation days approved, then bought nonrefundable tickets to France and then the supervisor said she couldn't have the days off, so she quit too.

Wow your boss didn't sound very nice. I hate when you buy tickets and then they change their mind. It almost happened to me but luckily I was in the union so as soon as I said something they couldn't really do anything but give me the time off.

When I had a working holiday visa for Australia I was allowed to work casually for each employer for up to three months. I went to Sydney first and contacted a nanny agency. They found a job for me with a family living in Rose Bay. I cared for their two year old daughter and six month old son. Next I went on a weekend to a youth hostel near to the Pitt Water National Park. I was told about work in a factory packing paper into handbags. The hostel manager said he would give me and a few other people a boat ride over to where the jobs at the factory were. I was given one of the jobs and it was enjoyable chatting away whilst we were packing paper into the handbags. I left Sydney and carried on up to Cairns stopping off at lots of different places. In Cairns I looked for work and found work dressing up as a koala collecting money for a charity. I loved doing that but it was very hot dressing up as a furry animal in the tropical heat. I was about to fly off to Darwin when I changed my mind and booked a train ticket to Brisbane. When I reached there I planned to catch a train on to Sydney. However on the train I went to the club loco car and met my future husband! We married the next year and divorced six years later. I managed to pop back to Sydney for a couple of weeks. There I found work collecting for another charity. I missed my future husband that was then my boyfriend and I went back to Brisbane to be with him. I flew out of Australia just before my visa ended. I worked for three months, a couple of weeks and a month in my different jobs in Australia.

Sounds like you had a lot of fun and a lot of luck traveling. I've heard its easy to get charity jobs collecting money on the street. My friend is over there now making tons of money. I don't think I could do that though. I hate asking strangers for money.

i get to work in the city and the work is about an hour and a half away via the mrt train and some local jeepney ride. people here in manila usually lives about that far from their work - which is usually in the business district in makati, ortigas center. I have not worked further than these two so i did not find any need to move closer, besides i live with my parents and brothers. :D But if i were to be in the situation, i will make sure to go find a job first before i move in to the place. it would be easier to find a place to stay than a work that i would like to do.

How do you decide where to go? Do you just buy your plane ticket and figure it out when you get there? Or do you plan it out a lot?

When I am traveling it is not me who gets to decide how long I can stay in a place. It is my work and boss who decides it for me. Too bad but that is life. I hope I can open my own business someday so that the time will come that I can travel at my own pace. Even if I have to live in a place for a month as long as everything else is working steadily.
