PayPal for sellers

I have received an E- Mail from Pay Pal this morning about a change to their rules. It seems now that if you sell anything and receive funds to Pay Pal the money is now been held for 21 days (or in the case of E Bay sales) until you get positive feedback. This is a real pain - I sell a bit on E Bay - so often people don't eve leave feedback - and the postage payment that you have received will still be held even though you need to post it. Where this hits me the hardest is in the fact that I sell Santa Letters - obviously people order and pay for them now and I have to buy all the paper, ink, stamps, reindeer dust etc but wait 21 days to get the money. Does anyone else sell in nay way using PayPal and will this affect you?

This is ridiculous. The whole point of paypal is that it is instant. It was bad enough with all of ebay's policy changes over the last year or so but paypal now as well It seems they just want to crush the small sellers among us. This is going to cause a major headache for the likes of us who reply on the funds to cover postage and packing. I was just getting ready for my Christmas campaign too

It seems like they just want to turn ebay into a buyers paradise. Were they not just content with the buyer protection anymore ? I just can't get my head around this new change to be honest. It won't really effect the big sellers as they can allow for loses but for us it will be a different story and even worse that we can't leave negative feedback to warn others.

This is my main concern, you sell stuff to make a bit of money because you're not well off and then you have to pay postage - what if the buyer complains and you lose even the postage!!

I know that change in feedback really annoyed me - the buyers can put what they like about you but you are not allowed to leave them negative if they cause you problems

Hey. I think you're really devastated with this news. I'm sorry to hear that. I'm not a seller but I do use paypal to pay some transactions. This is really a pain for sellers using paypal. Now you're very prone to scammers. On the other end, I think this will benefit us buyers. Honestly, I purchased something from ebay but after 3 months and still up to now I haven't received the item I purchased. I was lucky the seller whom I bought the item gave me a full refund.

PayPal have always had the ability to take money from your account for buyers who comlpain, so I don't see why they have to take this further step, I can see it causing me all sorts of problems

There are a lot of web-designers, web-based employees that rely for Pay Pal, to be paid salaries... This is really a big new, and adding up, for our fellow employees that starts earning with the use of PayPal, they will now start to foresee and prepare and most of all manage their finances to have a sustainable living until they got their pay...

I don't sell on ebay, however I do sometimes buy on ebay. I can't believe that they are holding the payments 21 days. What would happen if someone gives you negative feedback, but keeps the item? Does that mean you don't get your money?? Not to mention ebay, like other places have those wonderful people that give you negative ratings even if it isn't deserved. Have you ever tried Etsy?? It is like ebay however, I hear it is a lot cheaper and less complicated than ebay. I haven't sold anything from there, but I buy on there all the time and it is great.

I got this awhile back. It was a pain in the butt because I get paid from a tutoring site and I have to wait for 4 weeks for the tutoring site to send the money to my paypal, then paypal was trying to hold my money from them for another 21 days. I tried calling and they were not even understanding the concept of how the site works and that refunds are taken care of by the website and that is why they hold my payment so Paypal doesn't have to. Anyway, after my payment came through from the site they stopped holding it, and they do not hold my Ebay funds either. I was very upset for the same reasons because I do not sell too often on Ebay, but when I do I usually sell a bit at a time (like clothes, or books, etc). So I will be getting some payments one month then no payments for months just depending on what I have to sell. Anyway, I also added a bank account to paypal (not just debit or credit card but actual bank info) and they released the 21 day thing from my account so it does not happen anymore. I was also feeling the same way because it isn't fair to sellers to have to wait so long for money they need now. In my case I needed to get the shipping money from paypal into my bank so I could actually have the money to ship the item, so that wasn't going to well and it actually made me get low seller scores on my shipping time because I did not have the money to send the items and even though I explained to buyers they didn't care. So for me the 21 day hold actually hurt me more than helped any of the buyers because now my seller performance is below standards.

It certainly will hit all us 'small timers', as a previous member rightly stated they are basing the fact that there are so many shops on e bay now!

I sell occasionally on ebay, but not a lot nowadays. PayPal seem to be continually tweaking their T&Cs, and so much is in the small print too. This is a move too far in my book. It reflects all too well that so many of the sellers on ebay are shops rather than individuals. I can see that this will adversely affect a lot of people. It would be tempting to accept debit/ credit or cheques nly: but that would also put purchasers off.

This will make a big difference to me, with my Santa Letters I give a25p per letter to Children in Need - this is taken straight away so I'm not sure how this is going to affect me!

I don't have the money to use eBay; literally, I can't even afford the listing fees right now. My dad uses eBay all the time, and I think this policy is for the better, while inconvenient for the sellers. There have been countless times that we'd buy something and pay for it, only to realize we were scammed, and PayPal would only refund us so much. I remember buying a video game for my sister for fourty dollars, and we only got twelve dollars back. I think this is a safety measure more than anything, which seems to be a good thing. However, I think that waiting until you get positive feedback on ebay is a bit much, especially since we never give feedback until we get the item. If the seller needs our funds for postage, it defeats the purpose, right?

Exactly, if they realised the postage money at least it wouldn't be too bad!

oh. i am sorry to read about the change in paypal rules. If you remember, sometime back, we have had an uproar .. when Paypal had altered the rules for bank-withdrawls for INDIAN users. may be due to our noise all over the net, or because they were really concerned, they have decided to 'status quo ante' ... YOU all need to SHOUT loud ...against the new rules that trouble you. OR change your own JOB CONDITIONS that you will start working only when the buyer gives you the rating positively. Let us see. Goodluck to you till then, and always, dear friend...

Are you a new seller or are you using a new PayPal account? They only time I had PayPal place a hold on funds is when I first started out. They would hold the odd payment and everything that I sold over $100. My trick to get around that was I just used a PayPal account I had established years ago so no more holds. Maybe its also where you are from I don't know this sounds weird. Anyways I hope it all eventually works out for you.
