Cricket popularity in India

It was the English who brought cricket to India (and to Pakistan as well, of course). It had to be! Cricket is a very English game! Why it stuck as a 'national sport', I don't know. Perhaps the ethos and the politesse of the game appealed to Indians (who are respectful of that sort of thing, as a rule). Albeit, there are many Indians and Pakistanis who are better at it than our own (English) players. There are also many Indians and Pakistanis who have excelled themselves in the British Army as well as in the medical, legal and financial professions. It must have something to do with a love of clear directives from a set of rules and social mores, which all of those professions share. I notice that many Indians are keen on soccer and follow what I would call 'provincial' teams with avidity. There is less of an interest, I note, in American Football and Baseball (though there is some). It does seem that India (even after 63 years of independence) is attracted to the British sports. Sadly, I have yet to hear of an English Kabadi League! Is sport only a one way transaction? What is the National Sport of Latvia? (PLEASE, don't say football! That, too, is English!)

I think Cricket is a passion in India. Because many millions peoples are crazy about cricket in India. And also when any interesting match telecasts on television then many people don’t goes their offices due to telecasting of cricket match of Indian teams on television. I am also crazy about Cricket. And also it is my favorite game.
