As a mother of a young child, the biggest daily task is cleaning. You know dishes, cleaning, scrubbing, mopping, vacuuming, etc. I find my self spending all day while he is in school cleaning the house only to have to repeat this after he comes home and again in the morning. As many homes with children, in my home the house cleaning never ends. Is there something I am missing? How do you do your house cleaning? Is there a way to do it fast, have fun, and still have energy when its done?

How old is your child? Because even at five they can help you do simple chores like picking up after themselves and sweeping and mopping.

He is five, and he does pick up his toys etc, but I don't make him sweep and mop. He goes to school from 8:30 am to 2pm then he has his homework, eats, has a few hours of play and then hes conked out really early from his busy day. So I do get him to straighten up alittle but not strict chores.

Well, I don't know then, what mess are you cleaning up at night and the morning? I do most of my cleaning after my son goes to school and then I do my school. When he gets home, he does clean up after himself and does his homework, so I really don't have to clean again until the next day.

Mostly sticky spills, or upturned plates on my clean floors. Seems everytime I work and scrub my floors clean something is dumped on them by the end of the night. Guess that is just my luck.

Most houses don't need to be swept and mopped every day. You're putting too much pressure on yourself. Sweeping up dropped cereal every day is fine, but unless people are tracking muddy feet all the time, you can mop once a week. Your house doesn't have to be clean enough to perform surgery in -- after all, you deserve a life!

Ah, yes if there is a lot of juice spilt on the floor then I guess you would have to clean more often, or else you would have bacteria and insects. When my little one grows older I am sure I will have to deal with the same thing.

I also have that problem. But my kid is now 3 and i try to tell her that after playing with her toys she should keep it. I wash the dishes, do some polishing and do the laundry too. I was able to managed all this things by waking up as early as 4 a.m. I have put some time limits on every chores. Like 30 min in washing the dishes, 3 hours in doing the laundry,1 hours in polishing and sweeping the floor. The remaining hours of the day is for me and my kid to enjoy.

Do time frames work? I am wondering if I should try that. Currently I tend to move from room to room doing each thing at one time. Like picking up all the stray clothes for the laundry that my son tends to randomly drop on his way to the bath. All the stray cups that seem to get scattered between the kitchen and living room. All the Silverware my sons obsessed with and hides. You wouldn't believe how many odd places I have found my spoons and forks! People had always told me girls are messier then boys, HA! I beg to differ that one.
