Have you ever travelled with a tour group? What's your favourite tour group? I went with Mayaland Adventures through Mexico. It was a really great tour. I also went on a trip in the grand canyon with Arizona Outback Adventures. That was a life changing journey. I'd like to go to South America with GAP adventure tours. Has anyone heard anything about their tours? http://www.gapadventures.com/

I prefer to travel as an independent traveler than a member of a group. Sometimes I find it is necessary to join a tour if the public transport doesn't go to the places I wish to see. I did a tour of kangaroo Island in South Australia. It got off the roads to some places I wouldn't have been able to see on my own. I saw seals on a beach, kangaroos in a national park, a pair of possums playing and went to some beautiful viewpoints. I would love to visit South America independently. One of my friends did something similar to a Gap Adventures Tour of some of South America. I would adore it if I could see Machu Picchu in Peru.

That sounds like you had some great experiences as part of a group. You can definately see Machu Picchu without being in a group. My friend is very much like you and travels independantly on a budget. She was down in Peru and just got a guide to take her there at the town site. She didn't do the main trail but there are 5 trails you can take. Many of them just as beautiful and with less people generally. She did it for a lot cheaper than she would have in a group.

That sounds like it would be an interesting trip! Where would you be traveling from? Were you thinking of using a trip or planning it yourself?
