Often when I travel I treat myself a lot. I eat a lot of fatty foods and sweets. Sometimes its very expensive and difficult to find healthy food.
How do you stay healthy when you travel? or do you?

I just got back from a week-long trip and am way behind on myLotting, but actually, yes, I did eat pretty healthy except for a few treats, like a Napolean from the bakery. But I packed some sandwiches on whole grain bread and my own home grown sprouts. I take a sprouting bag with me when I travel and grow fresh sprouts as I go. I took nuts and apples and even some carrot juice that I made ahead and froze for the trip. In a week's time I only ate at a restaurant once and did not stop at any fast food places.

I can't believe you bring a sprouting bag traveling with you. That is a lot of dedication to eating healthy. In fact it sounds like you eat way healthier than me on a more regular basis. I try.

I juice apples, celery, and ginger root all together too and freeze the juice and use the frozen bottles of juice instead of ice in my travel cooler, drinking the fresh juice off as it melts along the way. My cooler plugs into DC so when the car is running, the stuff stays frozen and then we take it in and put it in the freezer in the motel room at night so the supply stays fresh for days. At home I grow and juice my own wheatgrass, but when traveling we buy it at Juice-it-up, Jambas, or Wholefoods stores along the way, although they are not available everywhere ;-)

I eat and drink all the wrong things when I travel. It's like a huge treat. I'll eat a big breakfast when traveling but won't do this when home. Will also have a few drinks in the evening and that's not something I do at home either. I relax, enjoy and sometimes go food crazy when we are away traveling.

I do that too! Especially in all inclusive resorts. However, when I get home onto the scale its usually not a pretty number.

I have a vegan diet. I try to take some healthy snacks like nut bars, rice cakes, fruit jam and fruit bars. In the destinations I go to I buy food from the local supermarket or at best the health shop. Markets can be cheap for fruit and vegetables. In Lisbon when I was in Portugal I found an excellent health food shop but it had expensive food in. I found it easy to eat a healthy food in South Africa and Canada. Sometimes it is unwise to drink the local water or eat food like salad. It could have been washed with dangerous tap water. I made that mistake in Indonesia and then I caught a ferry to Malaysia. I was very ill there with a terrible sickness and high fever. I always take my vitamin pills. I have multi vitamin pills, iron pills, omega pills and Vitamin B12 pills. I drink soya drink but in some destinations it is hard to find. Surprisingly I have bought it in Bulgaria and in Samoa. Sometimes food is exported from New Zealand to Pacific Islands like Samoa. I have seen American cranberry juice in Belize.

Wow it must be pretty difficult to travel as a Vegan. I have trouble just keeping with being a vegetarian.

I don't each much while travelling, only when stopping at bus stations where I would eat a complete meal and hot coffee in the morning or cold drinks at lunchtime. When travelling I think am not eating healthy food as I don't want to go to the rest room often.

I feel it is difficult because the ravel places vary from place to place and you may not get the right food you are accustomed to.
But try to be adjustable and eat only that suits you and preferably less than the food you eat in the house.
Some good fruits are also advisable like apple which can be easily carried while travelling.

an apple is a very good fruit to carry around because it doesn't bruise easily. I cannot eat apples because they are very acidic. It makes me feel sick.

Remember, when you travel its your time to be yourself to do what you want and enjoy the moment. It's not bad to eat a lot when travelling, unless you are on a diet. It would be hard to resist all those delicious foods served in a hotel or the delicacies or specialties of the place you are visiting.

this is true most of the time. Its definately important to treat oneself. However I am traveling and working for a long period of time so its not good to treat myself the entire time I am here.

In some places of interest it is difficult to follow a balanced diet if you have limited time and money. In order to keep my diet on track, I usually bring some organic fruit or muesli if I am away for short trips. Sometimes I would take soluble vitamin C with me just in case. If I have to spend in a foreign country for long period of time, I would spend sometime making myself familiar with local eating places and alternate cheap and healthy food. So far it works well and I always manage to keep my body (as well as my skin!) in good condition after trips.
