Sometimes i am confused to see these various names associated to money. Can not it be have a common name. That would be a different and easier case if we have that concept. I never understand the relation between these and why these differences in their values. Isn't that creating any differences between these countries. But the reason is why ??

Yes, the Greek Euro and the German Euro are technically the same, until you see what they can buy! I think we should use eggs as a currency. We would look after them much more carefully. Let's face it, every country of the world has eggs! But some Asians can't afford to eat eggs so country differences would still remain. It's a no win situation.

I got the analogy right away. This goes good with my point, "they" wouldn't be able to control it though, because people could just have chicken farms making eggs, etc. I'd rather not have any currency and just go back to trading. "I'd give you 20 turnips for that there ostrich I told him..."

Try bananas as currency then. Let the "they"'s be taking more interest in building up third world countries.

If we all decided to switch to a single currency the whole monetary system would collapse. They need to have the U.S. dollar to compare to the Euro, etc, so that you can express the worth of money. If you just had "money" you couldn't tell what it would be worth. You'd say oh the dollar went up, but you couldn't say up how much compared to another dollar, unless you compared it to products. You could say oh the dollar is worth 5 carrots today, now it is worth 6 carrots. But, the problem with that is "they" can't control how the dollar works then, or how the stock works then, they need to compare one made up dollar to another, so that "they" can manipulate things to their own advantage. Money would essentially become worthless if there was only one single currency style.

Of course it would be impossible to have a common currency for all the world. Every currency has its value based on many factors for a certain country. It's all politics.

well, isn't it obvious? money exist in different forms and names because they have a different value, money makes the difference between the countries, one has a bigger economy so it's money have a bigger value than the countries with a poorer econ. Until we will globalize , it will always be different tipes of money with different values ;)

they tried that in Europe by introducing the Euro, and it ended up bankrupting a whole load of countries. Different currencies have different values depending on the financial state of the country they are used in. Imagine england and japan used the same currency, but the values stayed the same. Japanese yen is worth much less than gbp so an english person would be spending thousands of pounds in japan for what would cost only a couple of pounds back home, whilst japanese people would be able to buy loads of stuff here that they couldn't afford back home. It simply wouldn't work unless the whole world became one united country, which also is never going to happen. Birdie

Do you know that the Dollar came from the word Talent described in the Bible's Parable of Ten Talents? Talent = Thaler = Tholar = Dollar Do you know that?

It's a matter of political and economical interest. Every country claims to be independent, at least economically, when they have their own currency, and it's used by politicans to manage the exchange rate so they can say "we give the people the better exchange rate", here is happening right now. And there are much more economical interests in it. Do you know about the forex market? It lives by trading different currencies, betting which one will give better profit by the exchange rate modification. There are many bussines around this, and all managed by the most richier people in the world, whose interest are untouchable by any government. But it will be great to have one single currency, there are a lot of complications when we travel between contries and deal with different money. It would be easier for us, and more equal for countries. But, the economical interest of a few dictate the world.

Why there are different name of currency is historical thing. I am numismatics so its good that you could arrange money you collect by some names not just money as money. Also I think here is economical interest why must be different values of all currency. In other hand all the world has one equal currency - GOLD. The gold worth the same all the world.

There are different name because of the exchange rate. Imagine going to the money exchanger and telling him that you want to change 100 dollar to dollar.
