Haunted house movies

What's your favorite haunted house movie? I like the original Amityville Horror, Poltergeist and The Changeling the most. I've seen "The Changeling" (1980) only a few days ago. It's more a supernatural mystery movie than a horror. Some parts reminded me of The Ring like the well under the house so I could be that The Ring author got some inspiration from this movie.

I have always been a fan of "Poltergeist". The movie still creeps me out to this day. I also like the Ju-on movies, the original Japanese ones and not the American remake. Nothing like those vengeful ghost type stories. And I have heard about "The Changeling" but never seen it. It has been recommended before so it might be worth watching.

The other Ju-on movies are okay but I didn't think they were as good as the first one. And I can't remember much about the second Poltergeist movie at all. I think it might be time for me to re-watch it.

The first one is better, it's just that I watched the second one first.

I have seen most of the ones that are mentioned in the discussion but when I think about it there is a lack of decent proper haunted house movies. I would say The Shining is one of my favorites. I would also mention Ju-On, The Entity, The Devils Backbone and Session 9 as ones I would recommend. I liked The Amityville Horror as well, I read the book first when I was in my teens and it did freak me out a little that it was based on a true story. Then I got to watch the movie. Imagine my disappointment after a little research finding out it was all a big hoax. I then felt rather silly being sacred while reading the book.

I know. I remember watching documentaries about it including interviews with the family. btw the house in back on sale for $1.15 million. Doesn't look quite the same without the famous round windows. Thanks for recommendations. Haven's seen The Entity or The Devils Backbone. Have you seen The Orphanage? I think you'd like it

It is probably the best paranormal hoax that I know of but even so it is still a great movie. $1.15 million that is a bargain for such a famous house and a classic bit of horror movie history. I had a look online at some of the pictures, it is a very nice house and has been well looked after over the years. You are right though it was the round windows that gave the house it’s own personality and I know if I bought it I would refit them lol. Though I think you wouldn’t get any peace with horror fans visiting but then one could always open it up as an attraction. I have seen The Orphanage and I liked it a lot, very creepy. Anything with creepy children in it gets my vote.

On the top of my list for my favorite haunted house movie is "The Haunting". It was a great movie, and I loved Catherine Zeta-Jones in it. That is followed by "The Others", if you can consider it as a haunted house movie. I also like the original version of The Amityville Horror! I saw "The Haunting in Connecticut" a few days ago and loved it, too! I haven't seen "The Changeling" yet, but it sounds very interesting.

Haven't seen "The Haunting", loved "The Others" and absolutely hated "The Haunting in Connecticut"
