Right now, the fad in the Philippines are mostly related to Koreans. Such as cellphones, fashion accessories, clothing, and of course television series. I myself am hooked on the things I said, I even pre-order Korean apparel online hehe. My mp3 is full of Korean songs and videos, especially of Lee Min Ho and Kim Hyun Joong. I am also very fond of Jang Geun Suk. I am also planning to buy an LG Lollipop, because of of its very Korean style. Is this Korean craze only in our country, or is Korea really influencing a lot of countries? I forgot to add, I even got bangs haha.

Filipino are kind of envying others.. like.. they want to be an american, japanse, chinese or even korean... have you notice that these foreigners like their nationality to the point that they want to share their culture to us? and how about us? we do not embrace our own culture.. many people now a days like to call their future baby in foreign names like hayato, lee, britney, no one will like the idea of naming their babies like marikit, alab, bagwis.. see my point? we craze because we don't like ours... we even try to speak in their language to the point that.. we don't know how to construct properly in our own language.. even in writing, we tried so hard to copy on how their write in katakana, hiragana, or korean-chinese or mandarin writing style.. while we learn from this we forgot our own alibata... we craze because we're crazy to idolized them... because we think that your baduy when you have your own fashion that are not the same as fashion hits now...

I'm the kind of person who does not really follow fad, but I really think the Korean culture is really cute. I agree with what you said, Filipinos has always been like that, it may not be our fault from the start, because of the fact that we are a product of mix races because of the many other nationalities that have conquered our country, but we allowed them to overtake us. But, how many Filipinos do you think are pure Filipinos? Maybe the Aetas or the natives in the mountains, but for example, me, I know for a fact that I have a Spanish lineage, even my surname does not sound Filipino haha. Anyway, I would like to defend myself, I do not idolize them, I just think they are cute hehe. But thank you, I know and understand your point.

The Korean diaspora had started a long time ago. The Koreans, the wealthy ones, seem to be frightened that their country would engage in a nuke war. And the rich families believe they could be safe here, and this established their homes and their companies in our islands. Because of the increasing numbers of Koreans who want to learn the Tagalog language so that they could function normally in the Philippine mainstream, they bombarded Philippine television with Korean dramas. And so now, we adapt Korean fashion, Korean expression, Korean food, etcetera. Well, it is the age of globalization. Perhaps we might as well be hospitable as we had been to the Chinese, the Spaniards, and the Americans. But of course let us not lose our own!

Now that I think about it, maybe because of our hospitality, that is why we welcome and eventually absorb the culture of other nations. It is a good thing but at the same time a bad attitude of Filipinos.

Being hospitable is never bad. Filipinos just tend to absorb what they see and pretend to be someone else. Perhaps because of the color of our skin that we tend to think we are inferior. We see so many of our celebrities bleaching their skin so they could pass for a Chinese or a Caucasian white. Little do our people know how beautiful our skin is.

Other nationalities really find our skin color great, they even endure procedures just to get a tan.

Well even before the so called Korean wave hit the Philippines I was already watching them, their music videos and soap operas in Arirang(A Korean cable Channel). People around me says I'm weird to even watch those kind of shows but now they are the ones following the fad and knows more of Korean thingy than I am. I like watching Koreans perform and I really like their films but that's that. I wont be one of those who would follow the way they look or stuff they do. I like seeing Filipinos experimenting and exploring other peoples culture but I just don't like when they forget they are Filipinos. I like my skin tone for I'm not totally dark skinned and not totally pale, I'm just right and being like that I can say I'm very Filipino This Korean craze is not only in our country. In Korea they call the Korean Wave and the Korean stars are actually super famous in Japan and China as well. I have a Korean friend offline who was one of my partners in thesis. I learned a lot from him and of course he learned a lot of Filipino cultures from me too. It's not bad to like Koreans and it's actually good seeing more of them in our country because it promotes tourism and stuff

I hope Filipinos find their original thing that they can share to others. Nothing against it and don't want to explain further. As for the craze, I could say there are already a number who is interested in Korea before the dramas were introduced to our country and got everyone's attention, some probably started with being Dara Parks's (sandara park) fan. In my opinion, when time comes and another hit drama is introduced, with a good plot and character ensemble they'd somehow shift there a little again. Like how we go crazy for Chinese/Taiwanese idols and drama, Mexican telenovelas or Japanese dramas.

I never got crazed with Mexican telenovelas, because at the time they were aired, I thought they were a little bit out of reach for my age. They have love scenes, and lots of kissing scenes, something like that, I never was a fan hehe. Although I really liked Thalia's small waist hehe. I totally can't find originality in our shows, before, they followed the format of Mexicanovelas, so they were long. Now, both American and Korean. Were it is short and with a composed plot. Imortal takes after Twilight, the others are adapted from pocket books, same thing as Koreans, Japanese, and Taiwanese adapt mangas.

yeah~ Imortal takes after twilight, although it started off like a sequel to Lobo...lol... well, i don't have anything against adaptation from books or mangas it's good to see stories that are left to our imagination in the small screens. Lol, I remember most of our shows have the same title as the OST, and the OST are just remakes its good to know that Imortal has a redeeming factor (for know maybe) - a somewhat original OST, like its composed purposely for that drama.

There is Korean invasion in the Philippines. We not only have their tv shows, songs. They are literally in the Philippines, dominating it. Look around. If you're at Boracay, Pagudpod, they're everywhere! So, it wouldn't come a surprise if Filipinos are influenced by them.

Really? Koreans really love the beaches haha. In our university, there are also lots of Koreans, and because of that, one of the thesis batches this year even proposed a Korean Eco village as their project hehe.

I've watched a couple of movies too, they really act good as well as they act in their tv series. And they really put budget in them.

Actually it's not a craze..it became a hit because these big networks are using them to gain more viewers to raise their rating..resulting to addiction of filipinos..we idolized them because the only thing that we can see is their positive side only..and just close our eyes when it comes to their negative side..When it comes to physical attributes, there are some people outside our country who envies us because of our exotic beauty.. these beauty we had since birth.. I even had this classmate who loves Koreans so much even studying their language.. because she thinks that when it comes to phonetics ours is so boring..just pure "a,b,c" not knowing that we have alibata (unfortunately conquerers didn't left any evidence that it exist)

I think it's the Filipinos who embrace almost every other craze that would emerge in the country. I am not one who goes with the fads, because I know fads would just fade. We Filipinos love to welcome almost any fad and any culture that sometimes we forget we have our own. It's not bad to embrace other cultures but we have to value our own culture too.

I think so because I see a lot of them here in our country, and I can imagine that many years from many our nationals will marry Koreans. Well its not bad because they are so industrious people. You can see it through their technology. They are always advanced, this is the reason why they influence our countrymen so much.
