Which storage would you prefer? a CD/DVD or external drive?

Yesterday while cleaning up the house, we have got tons of CDs hidden and all files were of movies, games, files that we saved, etc... and we just end up throwing all of them anyway-- so my brother and i were talking about this and agreed i guess we just need a huge external drive and just not copy the files to a cd or dvd (this is unsecure too, as the cd may be damaged or not readable over time, right? If you were to choose... what will you choose between the 2 available storage?

I rather save all my important information or data in an external hard drive than on the CD or DVD. As you can see, the external hard drive is getting cheaper and cheaper over time. 1 terabyte would cost less than a $100 right now. What a great deal. Honestly, I have 2 of those external hard drive now.

I would choose to store those stuffs in an external hard drive so that everything is stored in 1 place, unlike if you store it an a CD/DVD. You might misplace a CD/DVD, especially if you have a lot of it at home, so better keep it in one storage device.

I guess I would have to choose external drive. We have this portable one that we bought about a year ago and we're really very happy about it. But even before when we had it, we still burn our movies on a DVD. My husband wanted it that way so as not to overcrowd the external drive. However, it came to a point wherein we already have so many disks stock up and we don't have room for them anymore so we then decided to buy another portable external drive with a larger capacity, transfer all the movies that we'd want to keep along with other important files and just throw away all the DVDs and CDs. Although it's more expensive than DVDs/CDs, it's a more space saver and also more practical =)

I prefer to have an external drive the problem is it cost too much. I already have DVD Writer, i can store my data on DVDs or CDs.

I prefer to store my data on both a CD/DVD and external drive. This way, if either one gets damaged, my data would still be secure and accessible to me.

I prefer and is still using CD/DVD. Although we encountered physical damage over time, storing stuffs is an external drive is not ideal (for me) because situation such as virus or corrupted harddisk might cause me to lose my entire stuffs within. Storing the stuffs into external drive is definitely good in minimizing physical storage and it is much easier to retrieve the data for use but I just prefer CD/DVD because even if the stuffs within are not usable, only that disc itself is affected and the others will still be intact.

I prefer to put it in external drive hard disc drive because its has much capacity bigger than a DVD and no to expensive too. Its will save much space too because the capacity allow to save thousand CD. Just make sure you had regular updated anti virus so your external HDD will not infected by virus. Have a nice day and waited for your reply .

I like external hard drives because you can clear out data you don't need anymore. DVDs and CDs aren't always erasable.

I do not prefer CD and DVD because most of the time my burn process fails while copying data from my hard disk to CD/DVD so i use my friends spare space at their hard disk to keep it until i buy a portable hard disk which is much better and safer.

I will ultimately go with external drive or internal hard disk. My calculation is as follows. - HDD can survive longer - DVD can easily break - High definition movies will no longer fit in one DVD - With HDD no need to change from one DVD to another - HDD is getting cheaper and cheaper right now

hi chiyo! i will still use both cd/dvd and external drive for their own purposes.i have bad experience with CDs.there are broken and scratch till i can't retrieve back my data.it was really bad.but is till use it for other purposes so i still have them at home.while for more important data i will just keep those on my external drive.about the damaged, not readable data and get infected by the computer virus all these could happen to both cd and external drive.so i will make sure to have some back up for the real important data.

I would prefer external drive because it provides a lot of storage space and is easy to transfer files on it. But the downside is it is more expensive and if you buy an imitation, it easily gets broken.

External hard drive... its convenient and easy to use... you don't need to burn and it has a lot of space...

I would personally use an external harddrive as they have more space and tend to last longer than dvds and cds but once you put on the hard drive you can keep the cds as backup or you can put it on 2 drives exactly the same and then you would have a backup. Always have a backup as things can go wrong.
