There is so much publicity about Arizona's tough stance on illegal immigration that most people are completely unaware of how much Arizona does for the people who immigrate here legally.
There are only three states in the entire United States who have accepted more refugees that the state of Arizona.

A lot of people talk about how illegal immigrants just come here for a better life.
The fact is - most of them either come here to make money to send back home or they come here for an easier life. They are in no real danger if they remain in their home countries. But, when people who are in danger flee their countries and claim asylum as a refugee when they get here; they find that Arizona is one of the most welcoming states there is.

I think that part of the problem started when boatloads of criminals came from Cuba. They were supposed to be folks in trouble and instead they turned out to be criminals that Fidel dumped out of his prisons and sent over here as refugees. Ever since then, I know that Floridians have been wary of immigrants.
A lot of the folks who come here illegally claim that they are fleeing a life of horror. Some are. Especially those coming from some of the countries that are experiencing periodic civil and guerrilla wars. But most of the interior of Mexico is a poor but peaceful country and is not at war or dangerous to live in. As the other responder aptly pointed out, they come here to work and send money home. Then more relatives hire coyotes and come over. Eventually the whole family is here.
I see nothing wrong with legal immigration. That is how most folks got here...

That is why to become officially a "refugee" you have to turn yourself in and claim asylum when you arrive. You then are allowed to remain in the US while your claim is investigated and if your claim is prove; you get to stay indefinately and are placed on a path to citizenship.
Most people from Mexico, Central America, and South America don't even try to claim asylum because they know they do not qualify.
I can understand they want a better life; but, so do billions of people from around the world. THe United States is big; but, it is not large enought to hold all the people who would like to come here.
These people would be better off staying home and trying to improve conditions in their own country. No one says it will be easy for them to do that; but, it was not easy for our ancestors to create the United States that exists now.

This is Hispanic month and they keep giving tidbits about their backgrounds on the TV. The most interesting thing that I have heard so far is that they out live all the other groups of folks in the US...Whites,Blacks and Orientals. Why is this you ask? It is because they are healthy and well fed when they get here. That tells me that they were not suffering in their country. What does it tell you?

Speakeasy, be informed that our so-called immigration problem is in fact by design. The increasing number of Hispanics in the US is a political stratedy to replace Blacks who are now educated, knowledgeable about their right and cannot be easily misused -
It is almost like slavery without fetters. Several mega companies in Texas would even ask the temporary agencies that they utilize to send mostly Hispanics to them! These people are mainly concerned about having the uninformed around them and do not care about production accuracy or quality control. Compaq Computers used this strategy and Compaq Computers is no more!

There are always people (and companies) who will try to take advantage of any situation that they can.
Compaq and other companies did not create this problem; but, they do take advantage of it.
If you know of any companies who are currently taking advantage of illegal immigrants (hispanic or other nationalities) - report them! http://www.wehirealiens.com/
Many companies request Hispanics because they need people who are bilingual. As long as they are here legally (citizens or legal immigrants) there is nothing wrong with that requirement.
