Once Upon A Time......

I did it! Got the time wrong so woke up at 3.30am. Managed to wash face, clean teeth and brush air and make some coffee. Then the beep went and I was transported via Skype to Dofur in the Middle East.
They cleverly put me on a big screen and my grands were crazy with excitement. They were telling their classmates that Cynthie is their grandmother. The children did not know what to call me so I told them that all children call me Cynthie so they used my name like the twins do.
The class consisted of children from 13 different countries so it was truly international.
They all wear yellow T shirts with the school logo on one side and dark blue short pants or skorts. Looked so cute.
I could see them on part of my screen so could see their reactions and so I played to my audience. They were enthralled!
The first story of Goldilocks went down well and of course I improvised and when Goldilocks went home her mummy put her in the naughty corner! At this point I heard my DIL give one big laugh which she tried to change into a cough
Then we all sang 'row row row your boat' and at the end they gave big scream! And they cheered and clapped and for a moment I wanted to be in h classroom again but I am too old to go back
So I was all primed up to do the second story but after the cheers we lost connection.
But they phoned me and thanked me and the children want another story. So maybe again one day. I felt so good. Guess I am just a storyteller at heart. So what has made you feel good today?

It sounds like it all went very well and it was a fun experience! You sounds as though you would be a fantastic story teller if the way you write is any indication...It must brought back you teaching memories…Your grandchildren must have been so very proud of you! You should make it a monthly event or something...Everybody would look forward to it.

Well.... they did ask me to do it again! The twins were so proud. At the end all the children thanked me and said, 'Bye bye Cynthie' in unison. So cute. Yes. and I did enjoy it. Thank you for your kind words.Blessings

Thank you for that tip. I have heard it before but forgot about it. Another thing they use lots of peppers and onions, this is another reason why Chinese and others don't get sick like we do.

Hi "Cynthie"! Yeah! Yipee" Clap!
I knew you'd be
great! I had no doubt that the kiddies would love you! See,
they did! Now you can do it again and not be nervous at all!
You were a teacher after all, so how could you forget and I'm
sure you were one of the best ever! And I bet the twins were
so proud! Now you can get back to your "real life", at least
the one you have now. You never cease to amaze, "Cynthie". I
think that's why everyone loves you so much, I know that's why
I do!
Love, Les

I'm so glad the storytelling went so well for you! It sounds like it was a lot of fun! I was hoping you would tell us how it went and I'm glad you did. This sounds like something I would like to do. Maybe I can sing and play my guitar to the children. Who knows? I can't think of anything that's made me feel good today, I hate to say. I've had a headache all day. I have bad sinuses, anyway. I went to the chiropractor, though, and I'm feeling better now.

I do not live in the USA and neither know where you live but perhaps you could contact local grade schools and suggest doing it. I expect depending in where you lie will determine if the school can afford to pay. But try it and see what happens - you just never know what it can lead to. Be modest in your fee and they may take you more frequently. Good luck and many blessngs

But you sound so talented and children love music. This is an excellent idea that you could explore. I am sorry that you haven't been well though. I have developed sinus problems in my old age.......Many blessings

I will have to look into this. How do I go about getting started? Do they pay you for this? I sing at one nursing home and one assisted living facility every month. That's just volunteer work, though, which I enjoy doing. I do need something that will supplement my SSI check I get once a month.

I am glad it went well for you. I had read your last post of being nervous, but had not gotten around to answering it. There has been nothing going on here today at all. It has been very quiet, been cleaning.

Thank you. Made me so happy as they were proud to have me tell their class a story. I need to do a big clean and sorting out of things that I can dump. Has to be done but I don;t like doing it

I knew you would pull it off just fine. The jitters would go as soon as you started talking to the children. It is tough to go back to doing something you have not done in a long time and especially when it's talking to people...no matter their ages.
You did great! I knew you would. Telling you not to worry would have done no good. The butterflies were already there. But now you are so excited and happy.
I'm so glad for you!
The good thing that happened for me today is I finally got to go get my pain injections. which I needed so badly. After that I go to go shopping with my brother and some of my grandchildren. It was over all a good day.

That is wonderful and it's a blessing for you that they want you to do this again. Children do love having someone tell stories. I read stores and bedtime stories to my grandchildren every night.

I'm glad that you had a good day too despite having to have injections for pain. I do hope that they gave you relief. It has been so long since I was in he classroom. I had to leave to earn more money when my husband became sick. However, it was good and I felt such joy. Many blessings

cynthiann,
You are welcome and most of all you really deserve the credit where it is due.
Being away from home for my overseas assignments I can understand the time zone problems which can be daunting when work is mixed with us trying to adjust our bodies.
I skype and messenger with my family when I travel and I am just thankful for the available technologies that is helping us get on with our lives, most of all our relationships.
I hope that you will do it again and it meant a lot to me when I was young hearing stories from excellent story tellers starting with my grandparents. I just miss them even nowadays.
So, Kudos again!

Thank you so very much for your generous praise. I heard last night that the teacher wants me to do it again so that is a compliment. Yes, because they are from so many different countries maybe on a two or three year contract or children of diplomats etc they are not seeing their families at all. Whereas my grand twins were home for the 9 weeks of summer so there is more continuity in family life. My son talks to them all daily on skype and will be there for Christmas and Easter.Blessings

hi cynthiann what great time you must have had. I can imagine
your grandchildren were thrilled and bragged to their classmates
thats my grandmother. It sounds like you really enjoyed it also
and the children in Dofur enjoyed your story telling too. That
was a great idea and perhaps you can do it again. Takes a real
knack to be a really good storyteller and keep the little ones
enthralled. I used to work on the children's side of the libary
and was often called in to help with story hour. Gale the kids
librarian had that knack too and the kids would get so quiet
then as she made the appropriate noises for the characters in
her stories they would go off in gales of laughter. It was fun\
for me just to watch the children's reactions to Gales stories.

hi cynthiann thanks so much for best response. I sure miss those days working in the library but I have a lot of lovely memories. I have
often thought of writing some of them down in a sort of auto biography as I am not an oral story teller but I love to write.

Thank you Hatley.I could see their reaction on my screen. It was gratifying and this is what I am. An old fashioned story teller
It is fun to watch them as their expressions on their faces changed as they got into the story.Despite the early hour I would do it again but as Kat suggested take one of our own folk tales from Ja and dramatize it for them. Blessings

I'm glad it all worked out so well. I hope you do get a chance to do that again.
So far nothing really great has happened to me today, but it hasn't been an awful day either. Hubby did call a moment ago to say he's been working on getting prices for the things we need for the move, and the dumpster is definitely coming on Friday, so that's good news. However before he was done telling me everything he's working on, his father showed up at his work, so he had to go. Hope FIL does not have bad news for him. I'm sure he doesn't.. it's probably just something about the car or something else equally uninteresting.

I just responded to the other discussion where you said you were gonna do this!
It's great!
Sometimes I marvel at the technology. On how it can reach a lot of people from across the globe, even for just as simple as a story telling. Too bad you lost connection, but still, it gets me excites.
I wish there was something like that at my son's pre-school!

That is such a great story. I think that it is awesome that in this day and age it is possible to talk to people throughout the world and to be able to see them in real time.
The thing that has been making me feel good this week is the fact that Paul celebrated his 4th birthday this week and we are getting ready to have his birthday party over the weekend and I'm excited about that because he has been wanting Hungry Hungry Hippos since Christmas last year and he will be getting it for his birthday.

He wanted to encourage the teachers to contact other families of the children to participate as it is an International school. I felt so proud of myself. They want mke back so next time I will do a local story. Still feel happy. I hope that Pau enjoys his birthday
