fellow drummers! I play drums for worship and at church we just bought a new kit. With the help of another drummer we bought the evans EMAD and the EMAD resonant. All I can say is, YES! This thing is the best sound I've ever heard from a bass drum. We also added a EQ Pad inside the drum. So I've been at home on my cheap Mapex kit trying to make my own EMAD, since its about $80.00 for the resonant and beater head all together. I recently cut a hole in my resonant where the EMAD hole is and it didn't seem to make much of a difference in sound. I have a Yamaha Bass drum HEAD on the beater and a YAMAHA resonant that I just ported. I placed some moon gels on the outer edges of the beater (4) and 2 pillows in a V shape inside the drum and got a nice punchy deep sound. This is my best sound so far. Next I am going to try and make a foam ring around the beater similar to the EMAD. What have you done to your bass drum to make it sound good?

Just like you did, I put a pillow in the bass drum. Wool coated back cover, so the bats of wool and not directly on the skin
