Hi Eric and welcome to myLot, Too many dog owners face the same problem. Me too, I had this problem with my previous dog, Nera. It isn't an easy task, but, with a lot of patience you may succeed. First make sure your dog doesn't have any health problem. Yet, if your poodle eats, but prefers human food, he must be anything but spoiled. Say you decide to start today. Put the dog food in his bowl and give it to your dog. Of course he won't eat. Let the food at his disposal for only 15-20 minutes. Then put it up. Don't give him anything to eat until the next meal time, when you give him the same dog food. If he doesn't eat it, take the food away after 15-20 minutes. Repeat this for 2-3 days. Eventually, he will be hungry enough and he will eat. Don't worry if he doesn't eat for 2-3 days, if he is healty, he will eventually eat the dog food. But take care, everybody in your household must respect this schedule. Nobody should give him anything to eat except the dog food you give him at the meal time. You can add on top of the kibbles some yogurt or some canned dog food. You can also add one or two spoons of olive oil to make the dog food more palatable.

I don't know much more about them.. but i guess Dog can be trained on this things from when they are puppy.. if they will get human food in puppy state it will be used to of it.. so i guess better we do take care of their habit from starting.. I really don't know how can we change their habit if they are already in habit of human food..

put the " dog " food on the ground for 20 minutes and then pick it up if he doesnt eat it and repeat until he does. dogs will not starve themselves, i had the same problem with my new dog, he eats it while its down or he gets nothing and sooner or later 3-4 days he'll start eating the dog food, and dont start giving him little treats inbetween unless there sugar free dog food, he like mine has you very well trained.

I agree with vancouverall. My dad had a dog that was a really picky eater and refused to eat dog food but loved his "treats." It was hard on dad to do it to the dog but he did the same thing. He put the dog's food down for 15 minutes and picked it up if not eaten. Within 3 days the dog scarfed down his dog food as soon as it went down and there was never a problem again. He was able to introduce small treats into his routine later. Good luck.

Integrate a small portion of dog food into his usual bowl of human food. Then every day you add more to that portion until in the end all of the food in the bowl is dog food.

well just leave it there. dont let him eat anything else. That is why we try to avoid giving him human food regularly because they will be accustomed to it.

Just fill its bowl with the dog food. Ignore it when it does not want to eat. Sooner or later, it will just eat the food. But if you think that is too cruel, you can start mixing human food with dog food. Coax it into eating. Day by day, increase the dog food and reduce the human version.

All dogs love to eat human food and table scraps, it is a bad habit many house holds have with their animals in feeding them food from the table, this usually ends up in them not wanting to eat their dog food however you can train them to eat dog food by pouring gravy over their food in the bowl on the floor, you can also add things like water and get gravy train which is a specific brand of dog food that most dogs like because of the gravy itself. Also refuse to give the dog human food and do not let anyone else do it because that will ruin the training, if he gets hungry enough he will eat the dog food rather than starve. If these things do not work I would suggest speaking to a professional dog trainer or your vet that can help with this situation, it could be that he does not like specific things in the certain kind of dog food that you get.

well the best thing and the most effective way to do is to starve your poodle.. not literally going to starve him just starve him with human food. just place in his cage a dog food and water and eventually is his hungry he will it the dog food. just keep on doing it until he accepts dog food as his everyday meal.

I concur with what Max1950 had to say. Dogs will not starve themselves. But just an FYI - I know people like to give their pets "good" food like human scrapes, etc. But i don't feel its best. Especially for a poodle. I have a poodle mix and human food is NOT what I taught them to eat. Never has had any human scrapes and will never get human scrapes. That's why it is a dig and they have dog food.
