First off I just want to say that I send well wishes and blessings to all CHILEAN families and friends of miners trapped. Watching the recovery effort sincerely opened my heart. The way the Chilean population came together for their loved ones, family, friends, and strangers. It made me sad that I live in the United States and we dont act like that at all. Its not the way people are here. Mostly because of what the government has allowed to be done to its people. It was amazing that these people arent rich but they are happier than most rich people. The news said the miners have been offered $20,000 each for their story. They ALL agreed to split everything equal. That is so selfless. I only wish my children can learn from this and not from the examples that are set here in there own home town. Its not all of us. But its the ones that matter. It makes me wonder how other countries actually view us. I am helpful, loving, courteous. Most of the people I meet are the same way. Why dont we all learn from this tragedy and love on another. No matter what color, race, creed, or monetary worth. Just a thought.... Just my opinion.... Good luck to all rescued miners, families. Thanks for the resuers and medical staff too. You are truly the most selfless, caring people I have ever seen. dl

Like you do, I try to teach my children to be helpful loving and courteous because of the example that I set for them. That said, I think that the people of the United States get the reputation of not being such caring people is because of the fact that there are people that aren't this way and the fact that they behave in different ways is more recognized than the actions of people that are more selfless in this country.

I totally agree. It really touches a person's heart. Although, the miner who requested his mistress greet him instead of his wife (what a way to find out your husband is cheating on you)? I'd push him back down the mine.

Yes...what a miracle. I don't know where you live but here.....well we all still help each other out! I live in Minnesota. I can't tell you how many times people have pitched in and helped out someone else....people they don't even know. Say a farmer gets hurt...everyone around turns out to get in the harvest....someone in our commutity has cancer...a benefit where everyone comes and gives what they can to help out the family. Maybe it's in your region...but here....we are our neighbors keepers!

I don't think you are right about Americans. When ever there are tragic situations that effect neighbors others pitch in to help, any time a family looses a home to fire, the whole community chips in to get them shelter and replace clothing and equipment. When the tornatoes strike or flood those that have not been harmed chip in to help others. Americans are the most generous people in the world, when ever large tragic things happen we send money and goods to help. Much of the equipment and experts sent to Chile were American and much of this at no charge. If allowed our rescue people help earthquake and flood areas all over the world. Those of us who can't go give money to fund rescues.

I hope and pray that if not all, just most of all people would think the same way you as you do and everyone will help each other instead of pulling each other down. How I wish that all will be equal and if that happens we will have a paradise here on earth...

It was amazing wasn't it. It was also amazing that the president said they would do what they had to to get the guys out alive. They did not let pride get in the way of asking for help from others.

Yeah, their story is quite inspiring. I was even worried that when the capsule would reach them they'd start fighting as to who goes first. It's amazing that they were indeed patient and cooperative. I can't believe a bunch of men who are desperate to go home were able to keep calm and just follow directions. It makes me think that indeed amidst all the bad things happening around the world, it is possible to just show brotherly love and concern. I am very happy with the outcome. Amidst diversities, you could truly see what humanity is all about.

hi dloveli I think that saga of the Chilean miners will get into the'history books. those guys had real stamina and guts as something'like that is so iffy. But of course they managed to send down food and supplies but still in semi darkness and for so long. they must'have captured God's attention and he does work in wondrous and often slow so slow for us humans. I watched as much as I could yesterday here at Gold Crest. This has won the hearts of people all over the world for the bravery of the miners and the long determined work of the rescuers who were bent of saving them all. Dloveli you make me think too. Here at mylot most of us as a rule do treat each other with kindness and warmth and do not think about is this person Chinese or Italian or Swedish. We think of each other as human beings and we seem to get along pretty well.Of course there are always a few rotten apple in most bushels but I am amazed at how I myself have been treated by my mylot friends from all over the world. They have shown love, respect and sensitivity and some have even pmessaged me to see if I was okay as I missed some days here due to computer malfunction. You have made a wonderful discussion. thanks much. hugs from hatley.

This has been an amazing tale the whole way through. It is so good to hear that they all got out safely and earlier than expected too. The whole rescue mission sounds like it was very well organised. These guys will be famous now and they may as well milk it for everything that they can get after the trauma that they have been through. Two Australian guys went through a similar thing here a few years back. It was a very traumatic thing for them to go through, but they made a fair bit of money out of it. How is this for amazing! I told my wife earlier today that the Chilean miners were out after I heard on the radio that they had all got out safely and she just looked at me with a blank look on her face! She said that she had no idea what I was talking about! She had never heard of the mine collapse and had no idea that there was this massive operation to get them out!
