I haven't take emergency leave for quite sometime now, but last 2 nights my daughter was having high fever and i had to take EL for 2 continuous days. I never planned to use my leave like this and now i'm 2 days short of leave for my other plans. Have you ever encountered such situation? Do you actually take unpaid leave for your other activities if you really run out of annual leave?

Hi asxenon, I would take emergency leave when there is necessary. But this seldom happens to me as I always try what I could to rearrange my time so that it won't affect my usual work. But there is still moment unexpected matter would happen to us in a sudden. Once I found I was really uncomfortable when getting up in the morning. My jaw and elbows were painful. Running nose and coughing made me to feel so ill. The pain killer which I was used to take when feeling unwell didn't work at all. Seeing this my husband then made a call to my office and informed that I needed an emergency leave badly. unavoidable he had to take emergency leave as well to take me to the clinic. I still got pay as usual though I had taken emergency leave, as long as medical leave certificate from acknowledged doctor was submitted. I haven't applied unpaid leave before for I could enjoy long term like a month or so by the end of the year. I always take this opportunity to enjoy foreign trip or doing other interesting activities that need longer time Hopefully everything there goes smoothly and your daughter has recovered from the high fever. As a caring mom we always put our loving kid as priority. What we care most is our kid and others like money, etc are next in importance. Happy posting

Great that you spare most of your leave for end of the year. Anyway, many people had to finish their leaves earlier based on company policy and usually many people will take leave during end of the year, and to take leave then would be quite difficult. My daughter has recovered from the high fever, but is complaining on stomach ache as her stomach is bloated all the time. Hopefully she'll be fine soon. Thanks.

I had taken a EL leave before 1 month when my big brother was admitted in hospital & was serious. That time I had given a call to my Boss for emergency leave. My Boss has also sanctioned my EL. The situation never comes to take a unpaid leaves, because my leaves are always pending & if I take leave first I get sanctioned from my Boss after leave.

I do understand unforeseen situations, and it is true that many people don't have time to even take leave. Anyway, hopefully you'll get some time off to go somewhere to relax for a while :p Too much work is not going to do any good to our health, remember to take some rest once in a while :D All the best!
