How did we manage without computers?

Last week my husband needed to make an appointment with his doctor, when he phoned he was told they were unable to make an appointment because the computers were down. Please tell me how we managed before computers took over everything? As silly or serious as you want.

A good point. But in those days companies (and surgeries) employed people that were able to think without the assistance of chips (which they had with fish on fridays). Today we are over reliant on techno techno techno.... thump the top of the TV will you please....

Hi nannacroc, it's true that computer plays its essential role in our daily life nowadays. Though, there still should be some backup fixing aside to replace the computer in case it couldn't serve it purpose as usual. No matter how, the relevant party should entertain the client by jotting down the particular of the patient first, and inform him later when the computer is restored as usual. As what we know, only computer can deal with very complicated matter which cannot be done by man manually. There is no other choice when we encounter any breaking down of computer and we just have to tolerate until the computer got repaired. I understand that one will experience the anxiety of computer glitch when one needs it badly Happy posting

Maybe you are right and, when there are no computers or lifts available only older people, like me,will be able to cope. Take care.

might be they have forgotten the function of their hands and brains already for they are too depending on computer. This is the great grief of modern days. Just like many residents who live in tall building would keep waiting for the break down lifter or elevator to be repaired and never want to give a trial to walk up to their unit Take care and happy posting

It sometimes does make you wonder as Computers are the things that really make things tick and so many times that is how we all get by. But personally this is the only way most companies now keep track of when Doctors can see someone, so when it is down there is a problem for sure. Maybe they need back ups plans for times like this for sure?

A back up plan would be a good idea. I wondered what happened to the people who had already made appointments.

Just being able to do my banking and pay my bills online is a wonder. My Dad still does ok though because he pays his bills by cheque through the mail. I spend a lot of my relaxation time on line and I play and interact with others online. I'm unable to do those things to any great extent from where I live. Sadly, I don't read, sew/craft, draw/paint or go for walks as much as I used to BC. (Before Computers) I'm not sure what hit me actually. Getting my first computer pretty much coincided with the onset of my immobility and the combination is what has caused my weight increase to spiral out of control. The big positive is that I'm never bored.

The computer can fulfil a useful role but I think too many things are now reliant on them. When I first got my computer I used it all the time but have now managed to get back to doing crafts. One problem I had was that I spent so much time playing games on the computer I didn't seem to have time for anything else. It took longer with the computer but I became bored with it eventually, as I do with most other things I start.

1That was a big worry I had when I was deciding whether or not I could afford a computer. I was feeling very much left behind at work and really feeling it but I worried I would become bored with it as I usually do with everything else. That was 10 years ago or more and there hasn't been a day when I haven't used the computer for several hours unless it has been physically impossible to do so.

Oh I know! I have had that happen. I'm thinking, can't you just write it down and get back to me later if something changes?

It seems they've lost the ability to write.

We managed. But how are we going to recover if they ever all go down permanently?

You're right, too many people have come to rely on computers and can't manage without them.
