Hey a good movie is a good movie, but I am frustrated with all these remakes. Has Hollywood run out of original ideas or what? And often these remakes are not even remotely as good as the oringinals. I mean some of the movies I enjoyed as a kid had great sentimental value and when they were remade, it just takes something away. Some of these movies I've had to sit back an say: what was that?! I understand that most ideas and creations are, atleast in part, influenced by existing ideas and thoughts, but usually there is some originality and innovation; now I feel a lot of thats is waning in movie making today. Tell me what you think? Is originality leaving Hollywood? This is just the oppinion of a movie lover.

hey, was just thinking of putting up the same discussion, yeah, there really has been a sprout of remakes recently. we really dont know the reason, maybe its just a trend that hollywood people are into right now. or maybe they really dont have any good ideas anymore. or maybe somebody wants to express their own interpretation of a movie they liked or didnt like. whatever the reason may be, the fact stays the same. theyre making a lot of remakes nowadays.

methinks it's either for profit, reinterpretation, nostalgia, or the lack of new ideas. i've seen some remakes and often when i'm familiar with the original and check out the difference. sometimes i get disappointed with the new one, otherwise it's just so-so. making profit over some remakes is easier especially when the original was such a huge hit, so it's like banking on something without the need for too much creative and financial risk, and that can be sad. i do admire people who take the effort to create original movies, music, and other ideas.

Well, if you don't like remakes then why do you even bother. If you are fond of original pieces watch indie films. They are really original pieces and not intended for gaining money, it's just pure art.

Not only in the movies, also in the music world. It is funny I will hear a song with my daughter and she will ask if I like it, since I knew the words. I turn to her and say "this is a remake of the original" She says no it isn't. So I say if you want look it up, then change the subject. My daughter does the research without me knowing it and finds I am right. Same with movies.. I would hope they would come up with originals, I mean Good keep your attention, type movies. Maybe with the economy the way it is, they haven't been able to get a decent budget to make one. They spend to much on OTHER stuff they want/need so we are stuck with the remakes.

To me it's all about one word: PROFITS.. I mean they remake them for older people to relive the nostalgia of what they saw growing up also the know that most of them are going to bring their kids along as well to share in the "magic" they once experienced watching that movie. Also they try to stick what works take willy wonka the old version can't be beat it's a classic but they changed so much in the new version to cater to the new generation audience growing up and their tastes and likes drawn from humour on popular kids shows like icarly or wizards of waverly place. to them they don't see the necessity of taking so much risk with a completely original movie with an original screenplay if they can just remake a high grossing film i.e. The excorcist and the various spinoffs.
