Her name was Barbara Billingsley and she was best known for her role as Mrs Cleaver on Leave it to Beaver on T.V. as well as other 1950's shows. Sometimes I teased my hubby and have said "DO I look like Mrs. Cleaver?" as the 1950's "yes dear" wife is no longer sterotypical of modern women. Hard to believe she was nearly 95 when she passed. Even though we've grown up watching the re-runs sometimes it's hard to phantom that they've aged so as time seems to sometimes stand still on tv. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbara_Billingsley Just as her tv son Jerry Mathers aka "the Beaver" is in his 60's and has spoofed his character thru the years even @ his age & clearly no longer a child.

I did not know that she had passed away. I have watched this show myself a few times and enjoyed watching her. There have even been commercials I think for arm and hammer kitty litter that is a spoof off of her character. You're right though it's hard to believe that characters age, we only see them on t.v., on the same thing, and unless they pop back up years later in their later years we don't really think of them as anything but the character they played so long ago.

I remember watching reruns of Leave it to Beaver when I was growing up and what I remember the most about her is that I thought she was nothing like a wife and mother was as I was growing up. Instead of her being the thing that I aspired to become when I grew up, her character was the thing that I didn't want to be as an adult. I wanted to be a mother that took care of my children and also worked outside the house even though that is not the way that things ended up for me.

I read that headline this morning. She certainly had a long life! I remember watching Leave it to Beaver as a child, I really liked that show. I also remember her playing a character that spoke Jive in the "Airplane!" movie with Leslie Nielson, she was hilarious.
We're losing a lot of talented people as they age. I hope she had a good life.

Oh I did not know this, thanks for sharing... Ah yes I remember sitting there watching her re-runs and saying to myself what a great mom. Not having one myself she gave me the impression that this is the way moms were suppose to be.
I sort of emulated her as the years went by, and instilled a great many of her ways when raising my own. Wow I did not know she was 95.
