Why English language is important?

What do you think make English language more important than any other languages? Why do we have to learn it in schools? Even myself started to talk a little English to my kid. The usual response would be "Mommy why do I have to learn it now? Why is it so important?". We are not brought up that way and i find it hard to communicate in straight English verbally. I can understand and write it but not able to speak it fluently. And this is one thing I do not want her to be. But why is it really important?

As all said, its international language, and as an international language English is needed for international task, in business, information, technology etc. In business, people with fluent English will have better opportunity to make more provit than people with lack English because they can trade with more people around the world. There are many rich investors around the world, but if they can't even talk to them, how can they trade things ?? We also need English in technology. For simple example, manual book and warrant letter of many electronics writen in English. Its good if we got tools with manual book writen in our native languages, but sometimes they only supply manual in English. Like if we bought a refrigerator or TV set, because we can't understand the manual we turn on the equipment without guidance, and its blow up somehow, won't you regret it ?? :p Moreover for the people in research field, when we surf the internet many information only available in English. I mean, better English means better information for better achievements. And so on and so on, many more advantages of being good in English. For me, better English means more fun because I love to seach fun contents from internet, you know, most of them writen in English hahaha.... (^_^)

It is weird that many people are not proud of their own languages but think English is the language they must learn and speak. Whereas it is probably the most widely spoken language in the world, it doesn't make it better than other languages in my opinion.

It's a good question, I personally don't know. When I was at school, I asked my teacher why most nations feel the urge to drop their own language and pick up someone elses. Like in Africa, quite a few countries speak different languages due to how they settled within those areas. My teacher said that English is fairly easy to pick up and that with the British empire spanning so vast it quickly took hold of places.

English is one of the most used languages in the world. Almost everywhere you may go you will find someone that speaks English. It just seems to be the most used. So that is why it is important that your children learn it too. If they don't learn it they will have a hard time when travelling. Also without English skills they could never be a member of a community like mylot as mylot only used English, as you well know. What if you couldn't read or write English. English is also supposed to be the hardest language in the world to learn so if kid learns it in school that is good. The younger the child the quicker and easier it is to teach them. How did you learn to read and write it but not be able to speak it verbally. I don't quite understand that but then I only know one language, English, so I can't speak. My dad could speak about 6 languages and my mom could speak German and English because she grew up in Germany and didn't come over till after the war but she also learned English in school and that over 60 years ago that she went to school as she is now 75 years old. Cheers my friend and happy mylotting, Chris

English is the most spoken language in the world. Best information on the Internet and books is in English. It is a business and trade language. Most documents are written in English. If you don't know a rare language, English can always save you. In airports and other international places, a little English is necessary. There are many free online resources to learn English for this purpose, even with audio means.

I am 28 years old and I never was any good with reading and writing when I was in school. Somehow I managed to pass through the system and graduated grade 12. I still have trouble with reading and writing but since I am a Canadian and only know the English language I don't have a problem speaking English although I am not good with big words. I decided to become a member with mylot so I can learn my typing skills and writing skills and spelling skills, get better at them. It takes me a very long time to type out a response but I plug away at it and eventually get it down. I may not say things the way I might want to but I think I get my point accross. My mom is a member with mylot and she says it helped her a lot to update her typing skills and her spelling skills. She has been here for a long time and I see her on the site quite often so I decided to give it a try as well and so far I am liking it, although I am slow. I think in time I will get better and better. lol Signing off now, littlemissy

It is important because almost everyone uses English to communicate with one another. Learning it in schools is more convenient because all will learn together and the kids are more able to adapt and pick up new languages. It is easier than teaching at home.

I don't really see it being that important to speak English over any other, especially since English is a difficult language. And even worse is American English which pieces together every other language out there and incorporates it into English! I don't know why English is the main language that everyone should learn. I'm thankful I learned it from birth. I'm not good at picking up other languages at all!

Let's face the fact that English is a global language. It is getting to be the lingua franca not only of the Western World but of Asia as well. It does become imperative for the world and its people to be fluent with the language that will make a person competitive not only within the confines of the country, but also into the world as well. I hope I answered your question.

It's important largely due to the fact that the Industrial Revolution allowed my ancestors to travel the world and seize territory from it's native inhabitants. Thereon if you wanted to get to the top anywhere English was more or less an essential tool. With Britain's waning world influence it is still significant due to the United States economic importance.

I think the main reason would be enlish as an international language. Many books are written in english and many international traders use english to communicate. Without knowledge on english, one basically with only be able to trade with people of their own country etc. English is currently a world language. Although spanish and mandarin are widely used especially in their home country etc, english is still used as a median to communicate among people of different countries. Who knows maybe one day, international language might change, but currently english still lead as the 1st international language.

other languages like chinese, arabic, etc are equally important but english being the universal language spoken and understood by more people is most useful in commerce, politics, etc. especially now that the global community is getting smaller with international businesses, environmental concerns, internet communications, etc.

English is important to learn because it is used as a global language especially in business. Also tools in learning are mostly English -- books, websites, etc. It kind of bridges the gap between people of different nationalities who try to communicate. I think it is important especially in the work force. To be globally competitive, English is one of the languages that one must communicate in.

I'm not looking at the English language as more important than other languages. I believe all the languages are equally important depending on our needs. It just so happen that the English language became the universal language and the easiest to learn in order to communicate with the rest of the world. I'm saying it is the easiest because considering the influence of the United States in the world, we can practically hear the English language everywhere. The United Nations uses it and so does the rest of the organizations.

It is a normal trend nowadays that parents would like their children growing up, talking in an english language. I could say that it is better that way because they won't be having trouble when they reach primary school. I have 3 cousins that bruoght up this way and I can see that it is having a positive results on their academic. They can talk better english in school and at the same time could learn fast. They are just having a little difficulty understanding the aralin panlipunan subject and as well as the filipino subject. But overall, they are good in their public speaking and I know this will help them a lot when they reached college. And plus it is the internationl language all over the world. For me, it is a good way teaching and talking to your child in English even though you can't speak in a fluent manner.'Coz you will see the positive effect on it later on.

English is considered as am International language. If you can speak and understand English, you can also understand the rest of the world. A person who can speak English usually has an edge over everyone else. He or she can have a job opportunity around the world, especially in wealthy countries like the United States. And besides, learning English means that you are an educated and a sophisticated person. English is hard to learn for people who has their own native language. This is the reason why children must learn it. The earlier, the better. I remember that my mom used to read English fairy tales to me before bedtime when I was just 5 years old. I think this helped me become acqainted with the English language at a young age.
