Cannonisation

Australia

Australia now has it's first saint. Mary was cannonised yesterday in Rome and I don't think that means she was shot out of a cannon, does it? Part of the criteria for being made a saint was confirmation of a couple of healing miracles. Can any one explain how this works and how they attribute miracles to her. Miracles are pretty awesome stuff so it would be good to understand the procedure here.

This is truly a catastrophe! Cannonisation is just one of catholic's business fairs. Even our priests wrote books against the process of becoming saint. I am not surprised of how many people questions the credibility of the process of becoming a saint, but what I am surprised of is why there's still so many people blinded of believing on the idea that there are such thing as "Saints". What I know is there's nothing "saints" written in the bible.

I was under the impression that all believers are called Saints in the New Testament.

Apparently, there were two miracles accredited to Mary and I think both were healing s from cancer. Is there anyone out there who can shed a bit of light on the process of this miracle accreditation. It has taken many years to be approved so there must be a process to it. How do they determine that she was responsible for these miracles. What is the criteria used. At least one of the recipients of these miracles is still alive so it must have worked.

I was raised Catholic. It was explained to us that it was very hard to become an official Saint. Since then I found out that some Saints were unsainted. St Christopher, patron Saint of travelers was unsainted. I don't get it! How can we mere mortals decide who is and who is not a saint? I can tell you what I think should be shot from a cannon!

Didn't realize that Saint Christopher is now just Chris.

Hi Nick. I had never heard the term cannonised until this all happened or was about to happen. I am pretty sure that there would be an uproar if her remains were shot out of a cannon. I know they have some pretty strange rituals at The Vatican, but I am pretty sure that is not one of them! I am not sure how they define miracles or how they attribute them to her even. I think that nature does a lot of miraculous things that people of a religious background would see as being miracles, but I am not really sure if they can be attributed to a human being!
