The Worst Thing About the PG Era.

There are a lot of memorable feuds in wrestling history that have been made memorable with the intelligent use of blood. These days, once there is a small cut or a trickle of blood, the match stops and they close the cut up. The most memorable and match killing example was CM Punk against Rey Mysterio earlier in this year. This heated feud, but they had to stop because Punk was bleeding. That really hurt what could have been a great match. Consider, this, one of the most memorable matches in wrestling history, was the match at Wrestlemania 13 between Bret Hart and Stone Cold Steve Austin. The crimson mask of blood that Stone Cold had on was burned into the minds of the fans that were watching that. That image of Austin soaked in blood while in the Sharpshooter was vivid and one of the things that drove Stone Cold Steve Austin to the top and had perhaps their most successful era. Nothing like that would happen today. I'm not calling for blood in every single match, but it can enhance a good match and make it epic when used smartly.

Blood is essential to show animosity between two wrestlers in a storyline. Since PG makes blood not possible, this applies both to the show and the pay per view. However, I think pay per views should have blood since it showcases more dram am and kids do not watch pay per views. No wonder why pa. Per views don'tsellmuch these days is that there is no drama, no action and no blood.

That point is great. I believe Pay Per Views cost something like forty or fifty dollars these days. Adults are going to be the one's that buy them, not children. There is no children that I know that have fifty or so dollars to spare once a month. Blood can add something. Stone Cold Steve Austin, the biggest star in wrestling history, was made because of that image of his bloodied face as he was passing out in the Sharpshooter against Bret Hart. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

I liked matches with blood too. It makes the match more dramatic and fun to watch. That's why the first blood match was created. They know the presence of blood gives more impact to the audience.

Indeed, the first blood match can really enhance a feud. I think the best one was the Undertaker and Stone Cold Steve Austin match back in 1999. It had a good storyline going in it, with the Undertaker busting open Austin every week, trying to keep the cut freshly opened, so he can easily win the match. It was matches like this why Undertaker and Stone Cold was one of my favorite feuds of the Attitude era. Thank you for your response, it is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

Well said matt, I agree with you. I also remember those days when Undertaker battled against Triple H or Mankind in a bloodbath fight. These days, that all has been taken off and most of the wrestling fans have lost interest in WWE. At least those Pay-Per-Views should have such matches. We still miss those old days of WWE.

Well.... right now, the only ones that use boold in an smart way..... are the ROH. Because TNA overdoes that too much, and relies on that resource for shocking too often, I think Still..... no blood in WWe = Lame attempt to not "traumatize" their little money-spending fans

TNA really does a lot of things in excess that are not limited to blood, like throwing out Ultimate X Matches and Streetfights and Monster's Balls Matches and Ladder Matches on free television with no build whatsoever, but that's another rant for another time. Still TNA is on the furthest end of the spectrum and WWE is on the other end. Meeting somewhere in the middle. Blood helps but having blood for the sake of blood is really just as bad. ROH is great as that it has found a happy medium. Still there would be a lot of interest if for example Nexus beats up someone so badly that they leave the person in a pool of their own blood but that is never going to happen.
