Obama has been in office for nearly 2 years. I wanted to start this discussion asking you if you wanted him to be president from the beginning, and how you feel now based on his actions these past 2 years. Would you vote for him again during the next election? Here's an article about how Obama has "changed America" http://mscyprah.newsvine.com/_news/2009/06/11/2918738-six-ways-in-which-president-obama-has-changed-america-in-just-six-months Does charisma make up for increasing the national debt?

No, I didn't vote for him, but I did observe he can talk. I did hope that he would be different, but no; he's just another politician like all the other politicians. with superhero talking ability.

I agree. Politicians tell the people what they want to hear, that all their problems will be solved if they vote for this person. Politicians need to give it to us straight so we don't ruin the country by choosing another two-faced, fame-greedy diplomat.

Politicians won't change until we citizens do. We are the ones voting them in. I don't see the majority of citizens voting for someone "giving it to us straight.". Without the flash and showmanship, most would just change the channel.

I took one of those psycho-babble test in high school about choosing politcal leaders. Each world leader was matched with choices ranging from A-D. Each choice had a personality trait that we as individuals would or would not choose for a potential leader. The people on my test were: Hitler Stalin Roosevelt Kennedy (if I remember the last name correctly) Did you know that most of us chose a Hitler or Stalin? Hitler was the equivilant of a Boyscout in Germany as a child. We liked that, it showed willingness toward civil service. However, Roosevlet imprisioned his countries own citizens for being Japanese or of Japanese decent. So where does that leave us...to chose a person whom as a child showed promise to be a stand up citezen and either turned into a monster( or was somehow groomed into one)or the adult who chose to put its own citizens in the equivilant of the German concentration camps to help appease public fear?

I did vote for him. However, I think he is getting saddled with a burden he did not create. Remember Bush anyone? He's the one who who got us into a war after 9-11 and mislead the country with bogus information. Obama is trying to set a deadline to start bringing our friends and family home to us. -Many presidents before Obama allowed the great healthcare debate to pass them up. People were upset that their insurance companies over charged them and then dropped them immediatley after paying an expensive claim. Or refused to cover children who were diagnosed with asthma or diabetes. Or worse refused to cover things related to these medical problems. Hospitals and doctors across the country hike up the prices every year to keep from eating the cost of people receiving care and then skipping out on the bill. The Healthcare bill attempts to address some of these problems. However, it does come at a cost. Higher taxes, but you may also qualify for a tax break or incentive programs for/from employers. Maybe its just me, but everyone wanted a president who would do something. Who would get to Washington and actually do the job they said they would. He's doing it, he fullfilled his pledge to do something about healthcare and bring the soilders home. So why is everyone so worked up?

Ever since the 40's the u.s. government is morphing into larger and larger government.. til one day not so distant those supported by government will outnumber those paying the government (taxes). Then the system will collapse which is the plan laid out in the infamous book "rules for radicals". But anytime a domocratic government has collapsed, the government that replaces it is some sort of dictatorship or aqt best a big brother in control of all things (and lots of job/business and initiative lost, thus hunger, etc).

This whole situation confuses me to some extent too. I guess it all boils down to how the health care plan affects different types of people with different needs, along with the taxes. My parents are Republicans so they argue that we need more jobs so more people can actually pay their taxes. Personally, I think the government should try to make a profit (like a company). Whenever they need money, they seem to piggy-back on tax-payers' money. This isn't to say I think we should run the country like a business, since that would essentially take away much of our freedom. But I do think the government should be more careful about how they spend their money. A while ago I was watching the news about how it would cost the City Hall somewhere around $300 million to make a new building, since the current one is old and costs about $11 million or more to run maintenance. Do we really need to spend all that money just for some state politicians to be comfortable?

I did vote for him and am seriously regretting that decision. I don't think he is doing anything for our country except spending our tax dollars traveling to other countries. I think he needs to do more to help our economy like creating new jobs, helping the poor and middle class, and getting our deficit down. I hope he is not up for re election in the next Presidential election. I will not vote for him again.

I've heard almost the exact same thing from some people who voted for Obama. Last time I checked his approval rating was getting down to 45% but I'm sure it's lower than that by now. I wasn't sure who I wanted to win the last election, since I wasn't particularly excited about Obama or McCain. The controversy about Sarah Palin being a polar bear-killing Alaskan was pretty amusing though.

It seems every politician promises to keep us out of war, but they make decisions that are almost destined to provoke tension between countries. I too hope that we can have peace, because I hate to admit that some of my best friends have been going back and forth to Afghanistan.

I'm not a US citizen but I'd like to share that I saw so much enthusiasm during the presidential elections. I even felt envious because I've never had a president that I liked so much. Maybe it was because everybody was happy to get rid of Bush? Now it seems that the situation is different and this is sad.

If I might ask, which country to you live in? I agree with you, the presidential elections caused a HUGE controversy throughout the country. Whether or not Obama is Muslim or has Muslim "ties" doesn't matter to me, just as long as he's doing his best to help our country. But you're right, the situation is different now, hopefully we can get out of this mess.

I didn't vote for Obama the first time, and I will not be voting for him in the next election. I couldn't bring myself to vote for a muslim/socialist. Thankfully, Obama has pretty much been a lame duck since his disastrous ObamaCare plan was passed, and hopefully he wont do much more for the rest of his term in office. If the American voters have a single ounce of common sense in their brain-washed heads, they will not give Obama the time of day in the next election. We can only pray that Obama is not elected again...

Personally I promised myself that if he gets re-elected I'm going to move to Canada... I don't think I could have him as my Commanding Chief.

I think Obama was elected for the wrong reasons, mainly because people were puffed up with pride that they had a hand in electing the first black president. Obama did not have enough knowledge or experience to be president and his arrogant attitude has made it clear that he's not willing to learn. I did not want him to become president, and I haven't changed my mind.
