I think those business should know better about the advance of technology. Even the blockbuster facing bankruptcy recently, the local small video stores might also facing difficulty in making profit. People might not choose to pick up DVD from the stores and return the DVD with limited time. Online movie watching is getting popular, and basically, people can have their laptop everywhere, and watch the movie they want to with a cheap membership with netflix. So, the market forum has shifted to online video watching. I just saw another local video stores facing such tough time.

Technology is constantly changing and creating new businesses and destroying others. Some people gain and some people lose and the game of life continues without much care as to who wins and who loses. That's the world we live in.

I mean the whole point is, if you want to survive in this competitive and constantly changing environment, we have learn to adapt, and take on information. Analyze it and take an appropriate action. Otherwise, you just out of the game.

With the internet, video stores are becoming less important. People can see movie online. With the presence of pirated DVDs also, it's one of the causes why video store get bankrupt.

I think it's netflix that is putting them out of business. It's just too easy. However, you can't just decide you're in the mood for a particular movie and run and get it off netflix! You have to wait for it to come in the mail or watch it on your laptop!

Technology today is so hard to compete with. the biggest video chains have seen their downfall lately. it isn't surprising to see the same thing happening with smaller businesses.

It's quite a sad reality that video and also record stores are closing down. Here in the Philippines, we are still lagging behind in terms of digital downloading so there are still video and music shops standing. But it seems that the foot traffic to these stores seem to dwindle each day. I remember before, video and record bars used to be my fave hangout places because I feel happy skimming through the racks of videos and cds -- discovering what's new and unearthing the classics. Technology changes the way we consume things now. So it's really a challenge for the music, video and movie industry to go with the flow.

It's true that video stores are having a hard time, but it looks as if there may be room for specialty stores if they're in a good location. I live in a tiny nowhere suburb where the Blockbuster recently shut down. But there's a fairly new video store that also has a small theatre, where they show unusual movies -- imports, independents, and documentaries. They have a good selection of movies, the kind that you can't usually find at a Blockbuster unless it's in a big city. And they sell organic treats, so they're not depending just on the rentals. I was thinking about signing up, since they're only about a block away, but they're about to raise their monthly rate and it's too much for me.
