Hi everyone. I just want to be a fluent speaker of english language like native does. But I've never been successful, and I never feel good about how my english is progressing. I want to speak english easily, automatically and quickly. Anyone native speaker here? how did you learn to speak english fluently. What is your suggestion so I will be able to speak effectively.

From what I can read out all your discussions and posts you are doing wonderful. The only way to yet perfect it even more is continual use and practice. So that you will get here as the constant back and forth communication will be very useful. Do not worry about it too much and it will come naturally.

Really, I'm doing wonderful as far as what you've from my posting and some discussion? well I feel a little hope. But speaking is different from writing, I have ample of time to think about what to write but when speaking I'm not that confident to talk straight. Maybe you're right maybe I worry & thinking too much.

I suggest that you should communicate to people who are good at English or native speakers regularly. If you can't do this, watch English movies as often as you can and try to imitate the expressions being used in the movie. As much as possible do away with the subtitles in watching English movies. If you want to practice your pronunciation or speech or improve your English skill, you can send me a message and I'll give you the link wherein you can study English well for free.

Thats what I wanted but I'm here in a place where no one is a native speaker. I have a friend who is good in english but she doesn't much time to teach me. I don't worry much about my pronunciation but in my speaking ability. I can't really talk straight all the time. I was hard for me sometime to express what I want to say.

It's not easy to learn the native American accent. It's not what we called "slang" it's the right pronunciation and intonation that will neutralized our regional accent to American accent. Call centers are giving trainings for their call center agents to neutralized the accent not to sound like native Filipino but to speak English distinctly and vivid. I suggest you to attend call center training for English foundation and English proficiency. You will learn that,American have 14 vowel sounds compared to what we have learned from school which is only 5. Try it and you will surely love the training,it's fun and learning in training centers. Have a great weekend

training centers are not for free unless you applied for call center job, there are call center companies that offers free training for the applicants (qualified ones) That's the great thing for attending the training, you need to face your fear and challenge yourself. To be a good speaker must have the self confidence...if you can't even face your co-trainees,what more having speech in front of the crowd? Face your fear and challenge yourself...then,you can achieve your goal

Hi jaiho ho ho ho.lol I'm singing now. Is that for free to attend call training but I think that would be impossible cause I'm working now. It is daily basis. I attended trainings before in a call center but I did not like it. It was fun but I was really ashamed of being the center of attention. there were activities that I don't like maybe because I'm that not confident to face my co-trainees I'm always nervous.

Hi Mackenzie_jad! I believe that grammar is part and parcel of learning English as it is in learning any language. As grammar is usually very technical and dry I think it should be learnt in a more fun and interesting way. As with any other language English should also be heard more and spoken more as practice would make it perfect.

The most helpful way to speak English fluently is of course to study grammar. It is important for you to know how tom present your ideas correctly and accurately. I suggest that you practice conversing, and thinking in English-like if you think your tired instead of using your mother's tongue to tell your self how you feel you say it in English. I also recommend reading English comics so that you'll know how do native speakers express themselves.

The best way to learn english the way it is spoken by your peers is to surround yourself by english speaking people. Your professor is teaching you english the way it is written. He's teaching you english as it is written. NO slang or popular expressions. I took spanish in school for 6 years. It helped me learn the names of things and the conjugations of the verbs. However it didnt help me to communicate with people in an everyday fashion. I learned more from the puerto rican family that lived next to my grandmother. They used the language as it is spoken on a day to day basis. Just try to speak english as much as possible and be around people who speak english. Good luck and Happy MyLotting dl

i see that there lots of good advice here. although i'm not a native speaker, my english is on the average, quite good. i'm not boasting though. as many have said and which i agree, it is to surround yourself with people who are fluent in their english. that is one of the best ways. but since in your case, you do not have many native speakers there, then i guess that's a no go. but you can listen to english songs and movies, watch shows with english subtitles. you can also buy simple english grammar books with notes to practise your english as grammar is important. it is helpful if you borrow books from the library and read them. i think this is partly why my english became good at my age, better than my peers anyway. coming across words that you don't know a number of times, you will slowly learn/guess the meaning of those words. when you look it up in the dictionary, you'll get a great sense of satisfaction if your guess is correct. i don't have much advice to offer but all in all, i feel that listening and reading is the best way to improve on your english. that is second to being surrounded by good english speaking people of course. you might also want to join in a class teaching you conversation english too if they do offer at your area. it is helpful. you can ask things that you don't understand. hope this helps and best of luck, although your english does seem good.

If you want to know more English and be fluent in it you try to enroll at school specializing in English grammar and speaking. There are lots of schools that teach English speaking. Then if you are at home with you pc try to study online then you will add knowledge about it. There are sites that have that courses. Have a nice day!

I think it's about putting yourself into the culture and going with it. For example, if you travel to the US - it will give you a lot of hands-on time to practice communicating with others, which is about 80% the battle if you ask me. My sister went to Sweden for 6 months with school and came back almost fluent, and able to have good conversations with other Swedes. I'm sure that reading MyLot discussions and responses help, too. Studying can be rather useless sometimes I feel like.

There are many ways to improve English. You might be aware that there are many different styles of English: British, American, OZ, India, etc. The most popular style is undoubtedly American due to influences from TV shows and movies produced in US. Learning and having proficiency in English grammar is not enough. It also depends whether or not you want to go study and work in English speaking countries. Here are some ways: - CNN: If you have cable, you can tune in this channel and watch news. This is also what I called journalistic 'English'. It's not enough by itself. - TV shows & movies: I believe you have seen TV shows and movies produced in US/Hollywood. Yes, you learn some slang, both bad and good. - Native speakers: This is the best way to improve English. Bear in mind, even native speakers don't speak perfect English with perfect grammar just like people that already used to their native language. All of the above are good in combination. Just know what to say at appropriate times. G.

Hi Mackenzie! I am an English as a Foreign Language instructor. English is my native tongue. My advice to you is to listen listen listen! Babies learn their language first by listening, then understanding, then speaking... It works the same for adults. Your written English is good and it is good practice, but language is meant to be spoken. Don't worry about grammar, punctuation yet, it is important, but not until you can understand and speak well. Native speakers don't learn grammar until they start going to school, which is after they have been communicating in their mother tongue for several years. I suggest that you watch television, and listen to English on the radio as well. Also language tapes/DVD's are good. So is listening to music sung in English. Go to a local college or high school and if you cannot afford to take a class in conversational English ask if you can audit one. If all else fails get some people together that are all learning to speak English and try to meet up once or twice a week to practise English. See if you can get people together that are at different levels of learning. The more advanced ones help the beginners, the beginners help the more advanced ones by getting them to practice and explain things. Everyone benefits. Each meeting can have a topic of conversation and only English is to be spoken! The key is listening, developing an ear for the language and pracise, practise, practise! I hope this has been helpful!

Just like the first dude who replied, watch some foreign movies (English language). Imitate them. My English was not that good before until I started talking with people who lives in US and I kind of grasped how they talk, in other words the slang, but still my accent is not that efficient as theirs, but so its better than the rough accent of Native Filipinos. Right now, I'm trying to imitate European accent, the progress is so so, I can imitate a couple of words using their accent but I get the feeling that it does not sound right compared to theirs ^_^.

From my own experience, the most effective way of being able to communicate in flawless is English takes a lot of effort and practice in listening, reading and conversing. Listening -- watch a lot of Hollywood movies, just immerse yourself in hearing typical conversational English. Reading --- read, read, read anything from the internet to books, magazines, comic books. In this way, you get the flow of how words are used and constructed in writing. Then the best way to practice is to actually speak the language. Don't be afraid to make mistakes. Talk to people around you in English and tell them to correct you in every possible way and don't get offended when you're corrected. You really don't have to go into formal grammar studies. Oh and another way of practicing is writing. Writing letters or emailing is a good exercise, then ask someone to proofread your work.

haha, another English learner on mylot .Believe me ,you may learn some English-learning tips but never fluent English .Because when you communicate with others on mylot ,you improve your silent english at most ,which has nothing to do with oral english .In that way ,it is impossible for you to speak fluent english .To my mind ,we can boost our oral english by mimicing english speakers .As one saying goes, practice makes perfect .Practice is definitely the best shorcut of learning oral english .You must have heard about LiYang ,a guy who creates "crzay english ".He has never been to any foreign courties. But he is able to teach others to speak english .What's more,he was even asked by the Olympic commitee to teach Chinese english .How can you explain this ? just calm down and practice whenever you have a chance .

hello mackenizie, definitely, did not agree. grammar is a part of the language. yes, you can be fluent without it but is it ok to you to be fluent but in wrong grammar? i doubt you will. so it is of the same significance. you can ask your friends about it. :-)
