I was kind of talking here and there about the new cats. Well, one baby came on Wednesday, a little 7 or 8 week old baby who waltzed into the Cooke Elementary School gym on Weds with 400 children in it. She's so gutsy we called her Gwen after Gwen Cooper on Torchwood. Well, the roommate told her boss about her, then sent a picture and today, Gwen (now Pumpkin) has gone to her new home! 2 days! That is a RECORD! What's the shortest you've ever had a pet? Well, besides the occasional suicidal fish...

The shortest time we've ever had a pet was about 3 days. A few years ago (well, more than a few years ago), our daughter got two sister kittens from a lady we knew. One was calico and the other was a tortie. The two kittens were playing in the back yard, and I noticed a young man who had been burying cable in the alley watching them. They were so cute that I didn't think I didn't think anything about the man stopping to watch them. However, when I went out to bring the kittens into the house, the men were gone and so was the calico kitten. Our daughter named the tortie "Iggy", and we kept her for several years after daughter grew up and got married.

That is so horrible! I bet your daughter was crushed. I hope that kitten bit him, scratched him and puked in his shoes!

Not so good, after all, I'm guessing you had planned on keeping both kittens - part of why we keep ours inside

Yes, we had planned to keep both kittens. The tortie was my daughter's pick, but the Calico was to have been my cat. We now keep our cat indoors always.

I have always kept the pets I had, except one that I had for years and when I had a brief period of homelessness I had to give her away. She was a sweet dog and I hope she had a good life--I made sure she had a good home. I do have a stray cat, Clyde, a beautiful white cat that looked on the verge of starvation a few months ago. I wormed him and fed him--the good stuff, wet cat food that he loved!--and now he's a very handsome, strong guy. He doesn't come around much anymore. I think he found a home because even though he doesn't dine here often, he remains sleek and healthy!

I'm sure that you feeding him up allowed someone else to see his outer beauty as well as his inner and that because you made him what he always was, they now took him in...

probably my little blind white kitten that was dropped off at our house back in florida in '87. i had her 4 days and was telling my landlady about her and we already had 4 other cats. she had originally (the landlady) wanted my tabby that was so smart but she said hey i want to take care of that pretty little blind one. so, she got a lovely home.

Hello ElixBxn, This is the first time that i have seen a cat with green eyes. I am more amaze with cats that have blue eyes, but this cat is really cute.well, am glad that this cat is getting home with a new owner. she is such a darling, well, that's for her being a cat. Why are you happy? you mean it takes a while to have the cat adopted? well, guess there's a lot of cats here too. some are being neglected.

I'm happy she's got a good new home and besides, she made the number of cats in the house go over even MY tipping point - she made 31! But, yeah, it can be hard to find good new homes for the cats, so when we find one!!! happy dance time!

Wow! That is a fast turnaround. Gwen is adorable. I wish I could get another cat. My Maya would never allow it though. She is seriously territorial. I don't think I have ever had a pet for less than 5 years. Unless you count a hamster that I had in my apartment about 10 years ago that, somehow, my cat let out of her cage and played with and killed. She lasted only 6 months. I miss Torchwood!

Sadly, a couple of months. This dog kept getting away. We should have named him Houdini. No matter what he did, he took off. He was a Spanial puppy and he would not mind for love or money. He got off a leash while I was walking him and ran straigh away in front of a car and was killed. Also a baby kitten with jaundice. The vet said she was too far gone. I don't know if it even lived 2 months of its life. I think we had it 1 or 2 weeks. Both of those times were very sad.

Hubby won't let me get another we have 3 and they are enough work. Though I know he would like a Siamese. If I had the cash I wanted a Russian Blue when I was a kid. Though right now I'd love a tortoise shell kitten but a lighter color one. I have a brown tabby who's two siblings one is 100% black & the other is all black but a patch between her hind legs. I dunno they are kitties whats not to love except cleaning the litter box *lol*

Wow! What a brave little soul! I won't even walk into a gym with 400 elementary school children! The shortest time I had a pet would have to be when I was a child. I had found a little ferret outside the back door and wanted him so badly but my grandparents were intent on finding the owner..lol.

Really, and she came in totally unfazed by our hordes of cats and made herself at home. Had 2 close encounters with our dogs and let them have "what for" both times! Mind you, our dogs like cats and LOVE kittens, well Zoe and Precious do, Cujo would just as soon leave them alone if they left him alone!

I can't think of a shortest time I've had a pet. Just about every pet I've ever had stayed with us a while. I don't know if this would have anything to do with it or not but it might be because we had a farm out here for a long time. There were always other animals around to keep it company, I guess. I know that I never have had any luck keeping cats, though.

Sparky - The other little baby
Isn't she just precious! And as bold as BRASS! Such a nice change from Sparky, who is friendly enough, but afraid of feet, wary of hands - unless you come at him slowly, but loves tummy rubs...

I am having trouble recalling the shortest time I’ve had a pet because, for me a pet has always been for life. The shortest time I’ve had a cat was when I lived in Italy and had to more from there to Australia. I had a Siamese cat for around five years and it was then I had to give him away and it broke my heart...Gwen is a beautiful little cutie!

That is great news! I am glad to hear Gwen (now Pumpkin) found a home so soon! Awesome! The shortest time I had a pet? Let me think? I am not sure! I remember having goldfish as a kid. Fish usually don't last long! Especially the ones you win at the fair! LOL!

Yeah, I think I'm probably one of the few who never wanted to win a goldfish, because we had already had fish and KNEW they were harder to keep than most people think!

We keep our pets around for a while. There was a time when we had to finally tell our youngest to stop bringing home strays. We always would take home a stray with the idea that we would find him or her a good home. Well that never worked. Once it was in the house, it stayed.
