Job fest impressions, so where i stand now

I have been to the job fest with my girlfriend and we both had about 15-20 c.v.'s at us. we did not manage to "spend" all as we did not find enough relevant jobs for us. There were many openings in IT - programing - which is not really accessible to either of us; a couple of bank openings, not really interested either. We were interested in Human Resources positions, and in my case, maybe marketing entry level jobs, and we found a few of this and applied, although most were mere "give us a c.v. and when an opening occurs, we will call you". Well, one after the other i don't know if to call this a waste of time or not, at least my girlfriend gained more experience as i urged her into opening conversations with the employers of various companies - she was a bit shy. So, how do you feel after going to a job fest (or if the case, how do your kids feel after a job fest) ? Do you / them are happy with the results or do you, maybe like us, leave with a bitter taste of the lack of relevant openings ?

Ahh yes, Ive been to that kind of situation too. Now that Im "occupied but not employed" Im always on the lookout for job openings that I could apply for. Ideal would be a part time job since Im helping my parents with their business in the mornings to early afternoon. That would give me the rest of the afternoon and even early evening to work at another job. The local mall is always having a job fair, as sponsored by government institutions. Ive always wanted to try and participate but when I look at the job offers, eventhough there are a lot, there aren't any part time jobs. I remember seeing an Encoder spot. I do love to type and the work isnt that hard. Again, I saw that it was for full time, and that means from 8AM to 6PM. Im still keeping my eyes out for anything that I could get into. So dont lose hope, there may be more job fests to come, and someone will finally come calling after you.

Hi Elitess, Good luck with your search. I have never been to a job fest, didn't even know they existed but it sounds like you both gained from the experience and who knows you may get a call once the companies have managed to look through your CVs thoroughly. My daughter graduated in July and as yet hasn't had much joy in finding a position and as she is looking for a clinical psychology position and so many cuts are being made here in the UK I am worrying a bit for her but hopefully something will come up soon. Huggles. Ellie :D

I’ve never been to a job fest but I look at it as a good learning experience and you never know, getting your name out there may bring you the right contacts! It can disappointing I guess when you were expecting more positions you could apply for but remember you only need one successful one to in order to find your dream job! It sounds like it was useful for your girlfriend as a confidence building exercise. Good luck elitess I hope you both find something great soon!

Take it as experience gained. The job market today has widened with not so many opportunities and well sometimes you can simply be at the right place and time. If not hired I can see where one feels it was a waste of time. However think about if you do not venture out to the probabilities then what else is there to do. Nothing lost at earning knowledge.
