Recca (a donkey) & Costar (a horse) were rescued by an animal shelter in Rowley Iowa. It took several days for the workers at the shelter to realize what a special situation they had encountered. When water was put out, Costar could not find it until Recca showed her where it was. A vet checked Costar & discovered she is completely blind in one eye & almost totally blind in the other. Becca is her seeing-eye donkey. If Recca walks away too fast & Costar can't keep up, Recca will turn around & go back...touching her on his nose so she will know to follow her. The workers have attached a cat ball (with a bell) to Recca's halter in hopes Costar will learn to follow the bell. Due to this SPECIAL bond, the two will need to be adopted TOGETHER!!!! Have you ever witnessed such a bond between two animals??? And, by any chance, do you know of anyone with a place & the desire to keep these two best friends???

Awwwwwwww!!! That is the sweetest thing I've seen in quite some time. Thanks so much for sharing it here!!!
I wish I knew of someone who could care for these two. I have a neighbor who has two horses but I'm don't know them very well. If I see one of them outside any time soon, maybe I'll bring this story to their attention. I know we live quite a distance from Iowa but stranger things have happened!
I would love for my neighbors to adopt these two because I would LOVE to get to know them. Sometimes I think that animals are capable of showing much more love than most humans.
My two little Maltese girls, Lilly and Penny, are very close, although they are the same breed of dog. If one is hurt, the other comes running and tries to figure out the problem and help the other. Of course, this also applies to barking. When one is outside barking at anything (usually a 'thing' and not an 'anyone') you can almost hear the other one saying "Feets don't fail me now" because they run at breakneck speed to get outside to bark alongside the other one.
I love hearing stories like this donkey and horse, like when a mother dog nurses a litter of squirrels or something like that. I did hear a story of two horses who were like this horse and donkey. One was completely blind and the other acted as its eyes. These stories touch my heart.
Thanks again for sharing it, Marissa!

Yes, it is a very sweet story!!! Yes, it is a LONG way to Iowa. My best friend loves horses. Unfortunately, she doesn't live where she can have a horse now. However, both her sisters could possibly take them...so, I forwarded the link to her with a special request to ask her sisters. One has several horses of her own. The other lives on the old family farm & already has a barn & pasture available. I'm hoping that fate will tug at both their heart strings!!!
We humans think we are the top of the animal chain. Sadly, our 4 legged friends are much more caring than the 2 legged ones!!!
i would really love to hear that Recca & Costar have been placed in a kind & loving home TOGETHER!!!

I just read your comment to the response above mine. I had to share this with you:
I once had two dogs, a Border Collie/English Setter mix and a cockapoo. These two worked as a team to steal dog biscuits out of a cabinet. I was scratching my head trying to figure out how the heck they kept getting the dog biscuits because they were in a cabinet with a latch hook and the biscuits were in a box.
I decided to hang out in the kitchen once when I knew it was about the time they were showing up with these dog biscuits. I sat in a chair where they couldn't see me if they came in. It worked.
They both trotted into the kitchen, the border collie mix (Jake) kept looking behind him, probably to see if I was coming. The cockapoo (Sandy) sat down in front of the cabinet with the dog biscuits. (This was a cabinet under the counter.) Jake went to the cabinet and nudged the latch hook up with his nose. Then, he pushed in on the cabinet door with his nose which made it pop open. He pushed the door all the way open, then backed up and sat down.
Next, it was Sandy's turn. She went into the cabinet and shoved her snout into the dog biscuit box, coming out with quite a bunch of them, which she then dumped onto the kitchen floor. Jake then pushed the cabinet door shut, although he never did get the hang of locking it again. After that, they both shared the dog biscuits.
I was so amazed at this I couldn't say anything for awhile. Of course, I did have to let them know I was onto their little shenanigan and moved the dog biscuits to an upper cabinet.
Never underestimate the intelligence of our furry friends!

Another example that animals are not "dumb".

Believe me, I know animals aren't dumb!!!! I now have 3 dogs & 2 cats & watching them work together is fascinating!!!! My 2 cats tag team me all the time when they want something I have. One distracts me while the other tries to steal it!!!
