I know tons of women including me had taken epidural before giving birth to ease horrible but rewarding kind of pain..it says that it can cause backache and other risk on us women..at first, I was scared on epidural just think of a lifetime pain you will have as the side effects. But I had no choice I want my baby out and he is 8.3 lbs and I am a petite. So far for now, I don't have any discomfort or any pain yet. How about you? what experience you have after taking this epidural.?

Not after having it, but there was pain and discomfort while I was getting it. It really depends on the person giving it to you. Some people are better than others. The first time I got one, I barely felt it. The 2nd time, it hurt and the 3rd time was in between. But afterwards, I did not feel a thing.

It really hurts when I first got it, my body shakes like crazy right after the shot up to the operating room..then I feel asleep after I saw the baby..when I wake up, I felt dizzy and really hungry! You got the epidural three times??? means you have three kids..

Actually when I made the decision to have a labor without epidural it was because of the fact that I heard that there are a lot of risks associated with it. I don't really like anyone at all messing with my back and that was the reason that I chose to go without one when my daughter was born. By the time that I was pregnant with my son I had suffered a back injury and I didn't want to run the risk of an epidural at all because I'd been through epidural cortisone shots and didn't like that, so I can't tell you of the reaction after an epidural at all.

I had what they called a caudel (sp?) with my first child. it caused so many back problems that I decided to have the last two with nothing for pain. I did much better without anything for pain and do not regret it but do regret EVER having the shot for pain.

The caudel was something like the epidural. It was given in the back. It really messed up my back and I still have problems with it 20 years later. The pain wasn't really that bad with the other two. I think I have a pretty high tolerance to pain. I just kept thinking about the gift I would have once I endured the pain and it was so worth it all.

I wouldn't ever choose to have an epidural. It would mean a laying still or sitting still. It would mean a medically managed birth and that isn't the type of birth that I like to have. It sounds horrible that after an epidural there might be a lifetime of pain from side affects. It makes me glad that each time I have chosen a home birth and a natural labor. I like an active birth. I had a water pool for my first birth and that was relaxing. Then I gave birth on my sofa for my next two babies. My first labor was nine hours, my second labor was two and a half hours and my third labor was seven hours. I have no pain relief, water or gas and air.

An epidural is an anesthetic that relieves pain by temporarily numbing the nerves in the lower body. It can be specially good in a backache labor. Not all hospitals offer epidural. The epidural must be timed very carefully, so its so its effects have worn out by the second stage. Otherwise you will take longer to push the baby out, and this increases the likelihood of having a forceps delivery.

I was fine after my first epidural but after my second I have had lower back pain and it has been very tender, such as if my son would push on my back the pain is horrible I just cant move. Its been just over 2 years since my little girl was born.

Did you go back to your physician when you have that lower back pain? or what did you do? did the pain just disappear?
