Do people still have a Holiday account?

I was just wondering... I remember when banks use to have the holiday club. every week you would put in a certain ammount of money and around Oct. you would go in and get your money with a certain ammount of interest. I created my own holiday account wtih my ING Direct account. I put a few bucks in there a week so around this time of year I will have some money to work with instead of feeling so stressed out about where am I going to get holiday shopping money from. So do people still have a holiday savings account? or is it just me?

I remember back when they had Christmas Club savings accounts, back when it wasn't breaking a law to call Christmas Christmas. I love the way our government has two sets of rules, one for us peons and another for themselves. You know, "In God We Trust" printed on all paper currency. Sorry, just a little mini-rant there. I'm going to call Christmas Christmas and I don't care who doesn't like it. I actually do my Christmas shopping all throughout the year. Whenever I see something that I know that someone will like, and if it's on sale, I'll get it early, even if it's January. I generally have almost all of my shopping done by the time Black Friday rolls around. Just about all I need at that point is the food for Christmas dinner and, of course, all the makings for the cookies, candies, cakes and breads. I prefer doing it this way because I only spend a little at a time and it doesn't seem nearly as bad as when I spend it all at once.

I will join you on that rant, I just wish more people would open their eyes and see where we are headed if we continue on this course. I joined ING direct several years ago and use the savings account to save for our annual wedding anniversary trip. We are both retired and so we can go when the kids are in school.

Hi momma! How are you? Wow! I haven't heard anyone talk about a "Holiday Club" in years! I think that it is wonderful that you still have one. I wish I was able to have a savings account at this point! I barely have any money in my checking account at this point. I am now on Disability and in the State of NY that means I don't even receive enough money to live on. I don't ever even get a chance anymore to save because I don't get enough to pay the bills I already have! And with the economy the way it is I think most people are in a similar situation and it is really sad.

Hi Opal, that a pretty name, I don't live in NY but in Missouri and I am on disability. I find that if I pay myself first then I never miss it from my bank account. It doesn't have to be a lot but a five or ten dollar each week will build up in a years time.

hi I don't know if they still do this or not but a few years ba ck they were still doing it in my bank. The last year or so I have not had any extra money to put into such an accou nt. it all went to buy necessities and I do wish it was otherwise.

I think most people are dealing with that. I am just so blessed that i am able to put away a few bucks per pay check so I can have some extra money at the end of the year to buy things for my family. What i love about my family is, if I couldn't by gifts, they would be so ok with that too. I am a very lucky lady

I still think that many people still have these types of accounts at their banks. it is a good way to save for holiday spending without causing a problem to your finances.

Holiday account? Never heard that kind of account in any banks we have here in the Philippines. Maybe because they knew that Filipino is not more fun of taking vacations. Usually when we take our vacations we just go and visit our hometown where we came from that's our vacation. We are not fun of going to places and everywhere and have fun. That's not more of our lifestyles. But I guess nowadays there was a change already because a lof Filipino would go to places that is famous and would like also to experience it.
