About 3 years ago I started drinking Dr Pepper. At first it wasn't a big deal. I wasn't even a big soda drinker. Now, it is the only thing I will drink. If I dont have any, I can taste it, or if I see one that someone else has my mouth literally waters. I have weight issues. And this I know, is contributing to it. Any advise anyone?

Mine is cherry Dr Pepper, regular Dr Pepper just won't do it. It is my treat I have one a day. I do run over on the weekends sometimes. I won't drink diet as the sweetener in it gives me really bad head aches. You need to set limits, no it won't be easy, it not then I agree go cold turkey. I have stopped drinking soda for over a year before and didn't drink it when I was pregnant and it did nothing for my weight but I have heard you can loose 15 pounds a year by cutting out the soda. You are addicted which makes it hard. I would say all day drink water and then maybe in the after noon have one soda. Or if you really need it one in the morning. I am not a coffee drinker so I don't need the jolt in the morning. Good luck be strong.

I usually have mine in the morning. It seems to helps me start my day. I have tried drinking coffee and I hate the taste. I would love to lose 15 pounds. I sure do need it. Thanks!

Dr Pepper cherry is very nice but have you ever tried Dr Pepper Berries and Cream. That is an awesome drink, but I haven't seen it stores for awhile now.

Ahh, I've had some serious soda addictions as well throughout my lifetime, I really have! I'm only 20 so this sounds weird, but I LOVED Mountain Dew and Dr. Pepper as a kid. I would have 2-3 a day AT LEAST and even more when I could. When I hit like 8th grade, my new obsession became diet coke - so naturally I lost some of my baby fat that way. Then, when energy drinks came out - I became a FIEND for them!! I honestly did. That was when I was about 18 - I was obsessed with Rock Star (an energy drink) and finally just about ~3 weeks I quit. At the time, though, I was drinking 2-3 a day and with smoking and sometimes eating unhealthy, I was really afraid about it's effects on my body. So I cut it out and replaced it with my ALL new obsession, diet mountain dew!! I also try to drink at least 3-4 glasses of water a day (I know you're supposed to drink much more..but this is all a work in progress!). Even though I still drink about 2 diet dews a day, it feels SO much healthier than the full-sugar, 180mg of caffeine Rock Star energy drinks I used to have. Plus, according to the scale, I lost about 4 pounds in a week and a half of not drinking it without changing my diet or exercising more than I do or anything. So, you have that advantage if you want to quit. My advice? Cold turkey, like with most addictions, just is notttt going to work (if it does, it's going to be super hard). Buy yourself a case of diet dr. pepper, and start drinking coffee if you need the caffeine boost. Also start getting yourself to drink a little more water per day. I know water is super unappealing when you're so used to your sugary, caffeinated drinks, but you get used to it after a while. At least this way, you're cutting out a LOT of calories. Diet soda still isn't the best for you, but I figure regular soda has to be worse.

I need to commit to at least cutting back. My problem is if I don't at least have one I seems to get a headache. Water is a good idea. Maybe if I am thirsty and satisfy that with water instead it will help. Thanks!

My family calls me a dr. pepper-aholic, so I know what it's like. I drink way too much of it and I know it is one of the main contirbuters to my weight being so high and it's bad for my teeth; yet I still can't stop drinking it. When I do stop I get bad headaches. I don't have any good advice (or else I'd use it myself lol), but one thing I found that I really like is Glaceau vitamin water. I attempt to drink some of that in place of some of the Dr Pepper I would normally drink, but I still can't cut out dr pepper altogher.

Well I see I'm not the only one with a soda addiction. My addiction is Pepsi cola, but I often will drink Dr pepper as a refreshing change. I had to cut down on my drinking Pepsi. First thing I did was to only drink soda during meals. When I do have a meal I have a glass of water and a 6 oz glass of Pepsi. The water I drink first as I eat. I find, if I drink the water first during meals, 6 oz of Pepsi with ice is more than enough to finish it off. In between meals if I get thirsty I drink water. I'm not going to give up Pepsi all together. I don't drink or smoke, got to have some pleasures in life :)
