The topic of Bed Bugs is hitting the air waves and boy are they getting bad. Two trendy clothing stores have been closed in New York due to bed bugs. Bed bugs have also been found in banks, grocery stores, movie theaters, judge's chambers, schools, dentists' offices, basically everywhere. I used to buy used clothing at the Goodwill and from Ebay, well no more. I will not risk getting these pest from used items, and am even leery of buying new items unless they are sealed in plastic. Have you thought of it? Will the risk of getting bed bugs influence you purchasing used items? Here is the news article if you care to read it: http://articles.cnn.com/2010-07-02/us/new.york.retailer.bedbugs_1_bedbug-infestation-landlords-clothing?_s=PM:US

I went to visit a friend of mine in an old folks home and he told he hadn't slept all night because of bedbugs. It seems to be becoming a real problem. I never knew they actually existed until this visit. I always thought they were like the monster under the bed, just imaginings. Why do you think there is a problem these days?

I hadn't heard of anyone having bed bugs in my lifetime until recently, either. I have read that the pesticide containing DDT worked to eradicate the bugs, and they were becoming fewer, then that particular pesticide was banned because it was harmful to humans, so maybe that is why they are making a comeback. I don't really know, I am just guessing.

I actually wrote an article on Bed bugs last week. Nasty little buggers! You can see Bed bugs with the naked eye so if you are very careful you can still get second hand stuff safely. However, they are bad for hiding in stuff and I worry about erring so at the moment I do find myself steering away from second hand stuff (Which normally a buy lots of). Bed bugs are nasty and incredibly hard to get out of the house!

Yes, I have heard that they are hard to get rid of now. I really liked going to the Goodwill and digging through the clothing and sometimes I would find a treasure. The same with Ebay, I bought most of my jeans from there, but I think I will just cool ordering for awhile. Maybe if they sealed the item in plastic, like the gadget that seals food for freezing? Then if there were any bugs, that would probably kill them off, don't you think?
