My four-years-old son used to experience this speech disorder. When he was two years-old, he couldn't talk in sentences like children at his age. He was just bubbling and seemed hard to follow people to talk. At the age three, I sent him to school -Playgroup. The teacher said he was just experienced a speech delay. The problem occurred because I taught him other languages before time. Today, he talks a lot and doesn't want to stop..\(^o^)/ Now what is your opinion about speech delay and teaching other language at a young age...?

speech delay is natural, specially if you don't talk to them straight, i mean no baby talks. baby talks affects the children speech as they grow. because a childs brain is like sponge that absorb any kind of languages if you introduce it to him at a very early age. but since you said that he's talkative now, that is great!take advantage of the his age now,he can easily learn other languages. good day.

hello cdyt7874... thanks for responding... That time, my son was a little ADHD too..so every time I talked to him, he never paid attention. He liked to watch DVD, and I used to play him Barney, Dora or Brainy Baby...From the CDs, he knew the English language. Then I realize that it's not good as he didn't master his mother language...Well, fortunately it's all over...

it is a good phenomenon that the young boy can say two languages at young.ha,i think why this situation will appear is because of difference thinking of two languages.if he can handle it as he is growing older,i think you will give him more support.

Hi, Speech delay is natural for small kid,but as parents, we have to really pay attention if the speech delay was streched on till he/she reached 3 years old, then you may consider to send your kid to speech therapist or have proper check up on his speech delayment. I have a friend whose daughter is over 2.5 years old and she still not able to speak up single words from her mouth, at first, my friend thought it is normal, not big issue, but as time pastby, my friend is getting more nervous and at last, she send her daughter for speech therapist. It costs alot, but worthy when she saw some result after few times of therapist. We as parents, need to spent more time with our kids, try to talk to our kids more and explain to them what is right and what is wrong, educate them well. I do use multi language with my son when he was young. AT home, we speak 2 languages and he has no problem to catch up.

Many preschool age children are diagnosed with a speech or language delay. Often times, words are used by speech therapist that are unfamiliar to parents. Parents must provide a language rich environment for their child. Their child needs to hear use of language throughout his entire day. Parents must speak slowly and clearly each and every activity.

My daughter also experienced speech difficulty but it's not because of other language. But it was caused by her developmental delay. Children even without disorder or difficulty have different levels of development. Some kids are advance in other areas of their development and some are not. I think we can't expect much from our kids specially at an early age. If you think that the cause of delay in speech of your son occurred when he learned other languages, that is based on your observation. My daughter also speak in other language but the doctor said it has nothing to do with her delay. If we see any unusual in their development that's the time we need to seek medical help. Besides, parents know best.

Thank you hanni for your response... isn't it because she confused with the language, then she find hardly to talk? I was asked with the teacher to stop playing him CD with different language, and use one language at home...The result is he has shown a lot of improvement in his communication...

My 22 month old is a lot less able to express herself than my 4 yr old was at that age. I think it has little to do with teaching multiple languages. In my opinion every child develops in different areas at different paces. My older daughter knew her abc's and the sounds they made by 17 or 18 months and was also speaking in full sentences by that time. I use the same methods, and some new ones to teach my youngest, but she just isn't as interested and will develop in her own time. She is definitely bright in her own ways, she is much more hands on with things. She can take things apart and put them back together and can almost see a "lightbulb" come o in her head when she figures out something new. She is picking up a lot of new words daily now, and I am confidant she is on her way to good communication skills. I wouldn't worry that it was anything you did, it was probably just him way. I am happy to hear the problem has resolved itself with time. :-)

I don't think that teaching children multiple languages early in their lives has anything at all to do with them having a delay in their speech. Instead, I think that it would enable a child to talk earlier although they wouldn't necessarily use the right language at the right time. I think that speech delays mostly occur because of the fact that there are some parents that simply don't talk to their children and thus these children talk later because they've not had enough exposure to language.
