Do you think writing diary makes you realise why you do certain things?

I have noticed on several occasions while writing my diary that when i am in doubt about why i am having uncomfortable feelings and i write about them in my diary i suddenly realise why i feel that way. Like the roots of a bad habit. Or a phobia in my case. I am scared of letting other people touch my eye and I have a few eye problems so i have to go to the doctor often. And she touches my eyelid and turns it over to examine them. And everytime i faint after that. I was writing about one such day and thinking why do i feel so scared of this. I haven't seen anything like that ever either in my like or on tv. Then i remembered i there was a lesson about Brail in out english book when i was very little. It started with how he became blind. I think some sharp thing went into his eye as far as i remember. Now since i tend to imagine everything very, very vividly i got scared. It made me realise how many times writing something made me realise the reason behind my behaviours and feelings. Has anything like this ever happened to you?

i think so. but i stopped writing a diary because it also reminded me of some bad things. so i practiced having a treasure box where i put all the good memories.

diary writing is always helpful in many ways. for one, it accounts the days and nights of our lives. then, like your realization, it causes us to reflect on certain events and incidents. in so doing, we are able to realize the reasons and our motivations for doing what we do. we are also able to reflect on the nakedness of our humanity, our frailties, and strengths, and pains, joys. there are so many good things that diary writing does for us.

Interesting story. I also had a phobia of things going near my eyes when I was younger, but I had to get over it pretty quick when I decided I wanted to switch from glasses to contacts. I don't think I've ever discovered anything about myself from writing in my diary. I really think that I know myself pretty well and there's not much to discover! But I love writing in my diary because it helps me vent all my feelings and I like going back and reading over them because I can look at all the tough times I've been through and feel uplifted because I made it out okay.

I wear contact lenses too but the thing is i was not really that scared of putting my own finger in my eye as long as i was doing it carefully.. But i cant see other people touch my eye or infact someone else touching other persons eye.
